Refinishing Cessna Gear Legs
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?

I need to repaint the gear legs on my '56 Cessna 172. I'd prefer to do it without removing the gear legs if possible. Is there an approved paint stripper that isn't a risk for hydrogen embrittlement? I've read that aluminum oxide sandpaper is acceptable to real with surface rust, how about Scotch Brite? If I do take them off, what's the appropriate media blast?
Thanks for the help.

The 100 Series Service Manual has a supplement that came out in 2007 that is three pages and address the repairing the finish of chipped paint and what can be done.

Or an overview about what it says regarding stripping paint off 100 series spring gear legs?
Thanks.

I'm not sure how to post it to BCP but it is old enough that some googling you can usually find it. If you PM me your email I will email you a copy.
