Restaurant Cavanaugh Bay Open Again!

Just a heads up that the "restaurant" at CB is open again and under new ownership. It had been closed for remodeling but things are back to normal and they are serving lunch and dinner.

A pirep on a restaurant without a comment (favorable) on how the food is......?
Hopefully that isn't the indicator it appears to be... :?:

Re: Restaurant Cavanaugh Bay Open Again!

Haven't eaten there yet, so I can't give you an honest pirep on what the food is like. I hear it's "not bad" but "pricey". You can read whatever you want into that. I was told the Restaurant was "closed" by several people last week before coming to CB and I just wanted to let everyone know it's NOW open again, apparently, under new "management".

I can however give you a pirep on the "Cabin Grill" in Ione, WA, @ 30nm west of CB. And, just across the street from the airport. Selection, food, clean, service, all great. Highly recommend when in the area, they also serve lunch and dinner. Closed Wednesday's and Thursday's.

Well, I'm now able to give everyone a pirep on the food at the "new" restaurant at Cavanaugh Bay.

It's actually pretty good, if not great, although it is just a little pricey. But hey, it's a resort and all in all, it's not that bad. I ate there a total 3 times, with different groups each time and everyone to a person was pleased. No real complaints at all.

Re: Restaurant Cavanaugh Bay Open Again!

Hello Backcountry Pilots,

Took my wife to the Cavanaugh Bay Resort last Sunday for dinner. The host/dude seating people had a "Californian Attitude", and the service was marginal at best. The menu is now very limited without the BBQ they used to offer. The prices are about what you would expect on the water. Most of the seating in the bar has been removed so if your waiting on a table there is no where to sit. The airstip is in great shape with the exception of a few drunks on the runway. The location is great, and we have been going there for years, but I'd rate the new restaurant at a 7.

Our service was "not bad" to "pretty good" all 3 times. And, no one else really complained about theirs either. Lucky I guess, it was busy, full, every time we went there.

Well how was the food, you told us everything else except how your meal was. "Good", " just OK", "lousy" ??????

Frankly, if the restaurant wasn't near an airport, it would be a "5", maybe. But on the sliding "Airport Restaurant Scale" it ranks considerably higher just because you can fly there.

BTW, What's a "California Attitude", sounds derogatory?

Re: Restaurant Cavanaugh Bay Open Again!

The new management isn't serving breakfast which eliminated one of our favorite $100 breakfast stops. They open at 11am 7 days a week. I have heard several reports coming from boaters and pilots alike that the new restraunt is "upity" and has transformed from the North Idaho casual bar setting that it used to have. Now there are large racks of wine glasses on the walls and some guy greeting you with towel folded over his arm. No more BBQ food or $8 burgers. Now it's entrees and sophistication. Still a great airstip and great setting so I will continue to spend a few $$$ there now and then but miss the old atmosphere.

Re: Restaurant Cavanaugh Bay Open Again!

I have eaten there once. There are trying to be more classy, and also more expensive. I wish it would go back to the way it was.

California attitude is likely an accurate description.

Some locals told me that a lot of the locals refuse to go to the restaurant because some Californians strong armed the long term owners out of the place. Supposedly they(Californians) came to town with big ideas of building a golf course community on the lake and were able to talk the long term owners in to signing over the restaurant as collateral to get a loan to invest in development. Then when things didn't work out they forclosed on it and took it over. All in all it didn't make sense, but someting less than honest seems to have happened. I heard a similiar story from three different locals on three seperate occasions.

I don't like people building wealth in less than honest ways, and rolling over the small guy.

I don't like seeing a long term family business be lost because of big dreams of increasing wealth.

I am very disapointed that they are not doing breakfast.

If it's true, which I intend to ask more questions,it will be hard for me to spend my money there, but it will be hard to resist enjoying a meal next to the airstrip and on the water. CB is such an awesome place.

Re: Restaurant Cavanaugh Bay Open Again!

So, what else is in the area? I have been looking forward to spending several weeks there in late July early Augest, the old reports made it sound like heaven, I have to wonder now. I understand the Ca. attidude, even though I live here I don't have to like it. All in all our trip to Idaho last year was wonderfull, relaxing and I love the type of people that live there, remindes me of AZ in the 70s.
