RF 8001 Skis

Well I flew into Palmer earlier this week and mounted new RF 8001 skis on my Husky. It was quite a difference going from the 31" Bushwheels down to 850s, but it sure was easier to see out over the cowl. Unfortunately I may have pushed the season just a bit as most of last week's snow melted while waiting four days for the fog and 200 foot ceilings to lift. Today it was a brilliant sunny day so I at least got to roll out my dog and get used to the feel of the new landing gear in the wheels down mode.

At any way I ferried our plane over to Wasilla today where we are renting a heated hanger for the winter and shot a few wheel landings to at least get a feel for the new landing gear. I did cycle the skis in the air and also on the ground and all worked smoothly. The nice thing about the RF 8001 skis, not to mention their flotation and snow handling, is their light weight. The total instillation including tailwheel and electric pump is in the 75 pound range.

So -- think snow. We are looking forward to getting back out to the Wrangell mountains,

You're going to keep the plane housed at Wasilla for the winter?

the Husky will share its time between Wasilla and our place in the Wrangells. I still haven't been able to build the Nizina hangar yet -- this winter though. In the mean time the heated hangar in Wasilla will allow me to go out and fly when ever the notion strikes. ... and the Wrangells are just two hours away.

:D

Nizina, I sure wished I could have worked something out with Bill on that property. Your pictures made me fall in love with your place.

Re: RF 8001 Skis

Does anyone have any contact info for anyone who would know if they are STC'd for C-170? I've heard that 180/185's are running with the skis.

You can contact the manufacturer directly at: [email protected]

They are outstanding skis and I highly recommend them: light, great flotation, very easy to turn.
