RIP Franc White - The Southern Sportsman

If you are a southerner - you probably watched Franc White's zebra painted Maule on TV every week. He passed today at the age of 86. RIP Franc - I was introduced to "bush planes" by you.

Re: RIP Franc White - The Southern Sportsman

I had the opportunity to meet Franc a few years back. Growing up he was the hero on local television. In person he was a very knowlegable man with a passion for the outdoors. I was fortunate enough to take him on a few trips in my Maule. he really enjoyed the excursions. He then came to our EAA chapter meeting and shared stories of flying and life in general. It was a real treat to meet his friends from New Zealand and carry them flying also. My only regret is not stopping by to see him more often. You can go to
Photobucket and enter "tsnplanes" and find a few pics I made of him. One is of his grandson whom he was so proud . Last I heard he was in Alaska working as a guide. The others are on a trip we took to Plymouth NC. We are standing in front of my Maule on the end of his airstrip.
