Farewell to a great actor and great person. He was a decorated vet as a tailgunner in naval Avengers, a racecar driver, and contributed over a 100 million to charity through Newman's Own. Might be time to brush up on some of his movies....

Look at the old boy run that saw:

Turn in the wrong sheet, spend a night in the box.
Shaken the bush here boss.
When we went to sea on the submarine, we took a movie for every planed day at sea. Some were bad and some were good. Cool hand luke, along with 59 other flicks, went with us on a 60 day run. We must have watched it ten times. Could be my favorite movie.
Screw politics at this time, I think I will watch Cool Hand Luke tonight.

Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Sometimes a Great Notion, Absence of Malice, Slap Shot, The Sting--all high on my list of all time favorites.
Unlike most Hollywood types, Paul Newman did great things with his fame and fortune. He stuck with his one wife as well.
A great loss to us all, but what a legacy he left.
RIP

Don't forget Fast Eddie! Paul Newman increased revenue for pool rooms around the country. The Hustler an all time favorite movie of every city kid who hung out at a pool room growing up.

Paul Newman- God Bless and thanks for the entertainment!

In the '70s Paul Newman flew in his Biz Jet into Martinsburg airport when he was auto racing at Summit Point raceway here in West Virginia. I took my then very young daughter to the races and walked her to Paul's trailer where he was standing talking to one of his crew. I told my daughter to waive and say hi to Paul. He turned and said "Hello."
It's good my wife was not there or she would have melted! As she was all a gaga over Paul Newman!
He raced at Summit Point a number of times.
RIP Cool Hand Paul.

My Fav was Butch & Sundance... It spurred my interest in late 1800's western history so much that I researched everything I could find on Butch and Sundance. It seems Newman pretty much nailed Butch's personality pretty good. He was really a fun loving captivating kind of guy,as was Newman. He really was a born leader and in its heyday the wild bunch numbered as many as thirty members. THe famous photo of five of them in Texas after one of their train robberies is well known. THey were Harvey Logan, Butch, Ben Kilpatrick, Harry Longabaugh,(Sundance) and Will Carter......The movie starts with the quote,"most of this happened.." which is true.. By the way shouldn't this be moved to Off Topic

What the hell happened to America? I can remember when an actor icon the stature of Paul Newman died. We would be treated to a marathon of his or her movies non stop on various channels. There used to be the concept of immortality through a legacy of work. Now you get a sound byte and that is all she wrote. I am talking about timing! They lost the weekend because it is to much trouble to reprogram the computer. Or worse they didn't think they would get enough viewers. This web site is one of the few memorials Iv'e seen. Even the 24 hour cable news are more interested in covering the political class steal more money from the tax payers. I kept my outrage yesterday out of respect for Mr. Newman's passing but it is so sad that we have somehow lost not only the man but a chance to remember his work the way it should be remembered on film.
I'm probably the Lone Ranger ? but movies used to be part of the American culture. Now a days it an international business that depicts America as evil!

Careful there Sojorrn.Don't want to inject politics into this.....

I too searched for his movies but it seems all I could find was a bunch of Clint Eastwood movies. One after the other. Maybe they'll put some on this week.

Yesterday the headline, and the top 6 or 7 featured stories on CNN.com were Paul Newman themed/tribute/oriented. Since I don't have cable or watch much TV, that seems like quite a bit of press to me. Unfortunately the political fodder right now is thick and tends to eclipse cultural news. I think that Newman marathon will happen though. Even the program directors for the networks get weekends.
