Re: Rotator Cuff surgery: grounded 8-10 weeks

Rob, good advice from all, especially S12. Listen to your surgeon and do the PT religiously-

For the first 2-6 weeks, he'll be that "c%^&sucker who chopped on my shoulder"

From weeks 6 to 12, he'll be that "motherf%^&($ that did this to me"

Weeks 12-16 he'll be "that sonufabitch doctor"

And after about 20 weeks he'll be "the best friend I've ever had. Fixed me up all good!"

Get well - you don't want to do this again.

ice water and it circulates. i'm thinking of taping into the line with a valve. then fill with margaritas. when you want a drink put the hose in your mouth and open the valve. and it stills cools the shoulder. :D

i got to fly today with a safety pilot. i flew and it wasn't that much fun. i'll give it 2 more weeks

Re: Rotator Cuff surgery: grounded 8-10 weeks

I was too busy to check in on you Rob. If truth be known I forgot. I flew it home today. 6 1/2 hours in a Luscombe would make an adequate substitute for waterboarding. More about that in my own thread. I'm working through 250 e-mails tonight.

ha ha, like that sign. follow cindy lane. i'm the only 5th wheel rv in the hood.

i was down there yesterday, by car. had a meeting with the state aviation department rep. i now have their blessing to mow the grass. i am also an AIRO volunteer, which means i report to the state on conditions of the airport.

oh my this shoulder is going to be a hell trip, today is 3 weeks. i have about 10% use of my arm, i had 50% before surgery. oh well i knew and was told this was going to be the way it is.

cheers

Hey Tom: real simple PT at home. The real deal PT will start first week of September. It is getting better every day. I fly and land pretty good from the right seat now. Of course I have another pilot I am not the PIC. Off the oxycodone and just plain old Tylenol to sleep good. It is getting better every day. Thanks for asking, sounds like you had your done too.

Cheers...Rob

I went back and found this one. Tom you are right how much we can do with 1 arm. Us humans adapt pretty good.

I was wondering, for people who loose an arm do they have airplanes set up for 1 arm pilots?

G'Day...Rob

Something like that, they re attached a bunch of ligaments in my left shoulder, because it kept dislocating. and now my right one may need it too. I found that out when i went to hand prop the champ #-o. Good to hear you feel better. Just wait until the first cold weather or a big pressure drop. You can forecast stuff pretty good that way

Oh and DONT skimp on the PT when you do start going, and the home exercises. As much of a PITA it is at the time it will pay off. I didnt do all the home stuff, just some of it, and i started back at the gym to build up the strength.

Re: Rotator Cuff surgery: grounded 8-10 weeks

I've got an old friend in Alaska that lost his arm when he was shot by a berserk soldier at Wainwright back in the '60s. Thirty-ought-six in the bicep of his left arm. Took it right off. He flew for years after with a hook and a waiver. It can be done.

Glad to hear that you are healing up ok, and getting in the air a bit. Glad you got one of the ice machines too. They are great! Talk to you soon.
