Re: Route Assistance & Info Prince Rupert to Seattle

I was asked one time to ferry from Ketchikan to Bellingahm non stop. No customs to deal with that way.
She was a beauty, high octane, big tanks, and a tail you would not believe.
Left late and had to scud run the inside passage most all the way to Bellingahm.
Aside from the rough ride at Dixon entrance I delivered her to Bellingahm in one piece ( My wife that is ) aboard the Alaskan Ferry. :D
Sorry, as I'm sure this didn't help, unless you want to pull the wings. But it was a trip I will not forget.

I'd be worried about the weather. Then again, I always worry about the weather.

What are your planned fuel stop(s) between Prince Rupert and Seattle? Port Hardy? Vancouver?

Tedd:Your flight should be a great one with awesome views. If it were me, I would not fly a PA 11 on wheels down the coast route, both due to weather and landing options. For me the longer route inland gives you more opportunities. Maybe from Prince Ruppert to Anahim or Nimpo Lake. At Nimpo there is a dirt strip behind the hangars and Logan/Mary have camping and cabins, great people. Also flying around Tweedsmuir Provincial Park is drop dead beautiful.

From there you can go to 108 or 100 Mile House, my stomping grounds. 100 Mile is located in the middle of town and has all services. From there it is an easy flight down the Fraser Canyon to Bellingham for Customs. This eastern route has much better weather as the Coast Mtns. tend to block a lot of the weather systems.

If you are in a big hurry, go direct down the coast, but then again, why are you flying a PA 11 if you are in a hurry? I am sorry that I won't be around as I will still be in Baja. Let me know if I can help you out anymore.

Ford, Thanks for the info. I plan on following the highway down the eastern side to stay away from the coastal mountain weather. That of course leaves me with a decision as to when to cross over the Cascades, in Canada like you said or in Washington. I figure if the weather is bad across the Cascades I can at least make it down to Yakima, park it and fly commercial back over to Tacoma and come back and get it when the weather is better.

Your best bet if coming down on the east side is follow the Fraser valley right into Bellingham. This will keep you below most weather. If it doesnt, you wont be going anywhere anyhow. The weather these days (at least in the Seattle Bellingham area) has been so crappy lately, that the odds of good weather next month are pretty good. Good luck and have a nice safe trip.
