Re: S20 Build

Looking great GB! Is that a mount for a 796 in the center? Didn't know you could get them with a cover like that...

Header tank. We will ditch plastic paper cartridge in lines after test run. Lots of crap in the tanks.

That looks good. Are you running return lines from the Rotax?

Re: S20 Build

The two fuel line penetrations in the rear of the header tank are from the main fuel tanks. Randy has eliminated the forward gas tank pick ups in the mains, so the setup is now rear only to feed the header tank.

We return the fuel from the 912ULS to the gascolator. One could return to the header, we just don't want the extra fuel line.

My partner, the engineer, has gone a step further and organized parts alphabetically with corresponding priority number on a spreadsheet. It was quite a time consuming endeavor, but man it was so worth it! Offered to share with factory, kind of got a blank stare. Anyway, anybody wants it let me know. Have both for S7S and S20."

I will be building a S-20 in the fall. I will take you up your spreadsheet offer!

Knowing nothing, as in my case, I just assumed that somehow the gascolator return would be too close; as in not allowing enough room for expansion and froth free re-mix with new fuel. I have no idea why I think that but there you go. Is this a proven plan? If so, it's good news for sure. I'll copy.

Works for us on the S7, bearing in mind experimental is what it is and it's your big butt in the seat. [emoji1]

Many eliminate the electric fuel pump too and rely on the engine driven side. We left that alone but I usually forget to use it.

Re: S20 Build

I held the paint gun for the red and black the silver and white is factory and the stripes are vinyl. I am actually not a fan of the arrangement, but, amateur that I am could not match the silver metal flake. Then of course the whole wing debacle yielded white. So it ended up a little different.

I am amazed at the weight. It's a full 20# lighter than the S7S. All we can figure is a lighter factory paint job and we think the new gear is the biggie. We have the monster gear on the Courier.

We will have to wait until April most likely for our inspection. The nearest DAR is in Palmer, leaving us the FAA guy who is real busy with air taxi stuff. He's a good dude, so we'll wait.

Re: S20 Build

That is a really good weight. My s6s weighs in a bit over 7 (nose dragger with big tires, big prop, 2 oil coolers etc.) but the smaller 116 wing. ~20 lbs more with the wing you have / beefy aluminum gear etc. very nice! I love the 20... I have a couple MGL singles as well, so far they have been great instruments... looks like a very nice build

He opted for the AFS EFIS, as well as their comm, transponder, and intercom. Garmin 7-something portable GPS in a Gizmo dock I think it is. Also the MGL gauges with the intent of backup, however, as we found out later after poor prior planning, any indicator that requires a "pulse" can't be split with the AFS. So, no backup tach. Basically has a backup volt meter now and some expensive hole covers.[emoji3]I think the MGL units would be great as a stand alone product although very hard to see unless you're looking straight at it.

Re: S20 Build

Oh, and for everyone who always asks about how many hours to unpack, organize, and build...right at 1500. Yes, the old project manager kept a detailed track this time. The more experienced no doubt do it faster. Would also go quicker with more focus as this one dragged out over the calendar a little longer than we'd have wanted.

So, no backup tach...

I think I posted this before, I installed this cheap 10 dollar ebay tac on a whim as a backup to the analog one, but it is now my main tac. Rock solid, you need only wrap one signal wire around the number one plug wire, and ground.
