S7LS coming to a hangar near me.

Well:
Terms and conditions agreed to. Price settled. Inspection and transfer of cash to be arranged. Not a project. Registration screwed up yes I know. I talked to the feds on Wednesday. Title not in error. Factory built '05 SLSA transferred over to ELSA.

We're doing the happy dance around here. Need to sell the other two projects. Will be selling that Sensenitch and getting some bigger tires.

Cool, when your checkbook recovers.....get a three bladed Luga prop, have Hal Stockman in Elko do his BigBore thing, and get some bigger tires. You'll LOSE 3 lbs weight with the BB, and a couple more with the Luga, almost enough to make up for the extra weight and drag of the bigger tires, ha ha. Looks good as it is of course, just my two cents worth. And a EarthX battery is a no brainer, good for around a 10 lb. weight loss. You probably thought you were done spending money?!

Thanks guys. The first thing my wife said when I showed her the photos was, "How come the wheels are so small?" Gotta love that woman.

Terrific looking plane. I think that white will keep the fabric happy for quite some time. I went the same route as you S-LSA to E-LSA (Savage Cub). Maybe we will run into each other at Hal's getting our HP bumped up 8)

Congrats Dan, you are going to have a blast in that sweet airplane! Curious, what projects are selling and what pushed you over the edge to buy a flying airplane? Tired of building?

I wish it was that I was tired of building Kurt. It's really that I ain't doin' no damn building at all! I have a Zenith CH701 with a ton of work done on it and a Starduster SA-100 that needs a new engine and re-assembly of wings, controls and fairings. It had a prop strike just after a complete restoration. I've had a blown out knee, a broken back, the wife has had cancer and other issues and I just can't catch a break. So with an airworthy airplane in the hangar, the free time I do have just requires gas and go. You know?

Everybody got somethin'

You'll need the larger pneumatic tail wheel also, it makes a big difference in the noise it makes when taxiing. That solid wheel makes a racket!

Matco, the owner flies a S7-S. I use a 8".

I use the 8" Matco also on the original RANS mount. If that is the original RANS tail wheel, be sure to check the tail wheel steering horn and it's spring loaded tension key for wear. Mine cammed out and I lost tail wheel steering. Not a big deal, the S7 tracks like on rails. (Put mine down in a gusting 28kt 60 deg cross wind). If it is the MATCO made tail wheel assembly, you're golden, just add the 8" pneumatic wheel.

Re: S7LS coming to a hangar near me.

Whack Job:

I just thought I'd share a photo or two with all y'all. The airplane meets or exceeds my expectations for condition.....but boy oh boy the backside of this Sensenitch ground adjustable gives you pause. No cracks but it's hard to tell if it's black paint with white chips or white paint with black chips. Based on dirt and gravel in SOCAL. Rans says that Whirlwind makes blades for that prop special for them. I have no idea the price. I can probably get a new prop cheaper but. Hey Courierguy, what happened to your Prince? Are you still running that one? We are still awaiting de-screwupification of the FAA paperwork before money changes hands beyond the earnest dough.

Dusty:

That's real dust on there, not fake dust like you sometimes see. Two days with a vacuum and a dry paint brush I think. Oh, I forgot to mention that the charging system is not right. The airplane starts fine but the volt meter doesn't move either way from about 10.5 volts. I didn't have my Fluke with me. I have no idea yet what's up.

Re: S7LS coming to a hangar near me.

I'm not that much impressed with my Sensenich either. I'm based on a dirt strip and I can already see problems. At least you have "something" on the back side of the leading edge; I have nothing. The so called leading edge (whatever it is made out of) stops right at the edge with nothing on the back side. I got my endorsement with Stick and Rudder and they were running Whirlwinds and they had no shit metal (nickel?) leading edges and they seemed to hold up very well and S&R rode them hard in the back country strips.

Are you saying that Whirlwind makes blades for Sensenich hubs? If so, that is definitely the way I will go, assuming no other issues.

Besides the prop, it looks like you have a lot of fun flying hours ahead of you. Congrats.

Re: S7LS coming to a hangar near me.

My Prince prop is holding up great, which it should, at damn near 2 K. Meanwhile, I've bought several Luga props, apparently direct from the manufacturer. They appear to be IDENTICAL to the Kool and/or Kiev line of props, but much less expensive. There are several S-7 pilots hereabouts flying with them, and they love them. I keep buying them so I have a backup for when (not if) I trash the Prince, as it took 6 months to get. But I keep selling my backup....hang that Sensinich on the wall, for whatever reason they didn't get it right for the 912 line of engines. PM me if you want a 72" Luga, I have in stock, I'll probably be at a buddies hangar today with one and will take a picture.
