Sad day. 6 y.o.dies in float plane crash.
Debrief, share, and hopefully learn from the mistakes of others.
i also herd that another good way is with a placard velcrow'd to the pannel, one side saying wheels UP and the other side saying wheels DOWN, and after you raise or lower them flip the card, and check the mirrors too. I feel like something should change, because it sounds like its becoming more and more of a "problem".
Im curious how often a anfib flips over due to a mechanical problem, IE gear lowering when the plane is landing, or if that has ever happened?

I went through a little of this thinking when I placarded my wheel skis, and came up with simply two placards "WHEELS", and "SKIS". Kind of hard to screw that up, so far anyway. I still eyeball them to make sure I got it right, and have tried to make it a habit to always deploy the wheels/lose the skis, when turning base onto a paved runway.

One of my old bosses, died from this issue. They had selected gear up, and heard the pumps going, then they thought the gear was up and locked.. Touched down on the lake, and flipped over. Neither of the experienced pilots looked out and checked the gear.
