Salmon Bar Airstrip Report

Hello Backcountry Pilots,
I landed my Maule at the Salmon Bar Airstrip on July 2nd early in the morning. The Salmon Bar Airstrip is located at the confluence of the Snake and Salmon Rivers. There was a group of rafters camping on the large white sand beach there, and they turned out to be nice folks. As far as the airstrip goes, there is a windsock there, and I prefer the dead calm of morning. It gets real hot down in the bottom of Hells Canyon, but great swimming beaches to be had. The strip was real over grown with tall weeds so its hard to stay on center-line, but there are large rocks a cactus lining the short runway, about 600 feet.
Be careful, there has been three accidents there in the previous year.

Thanks for sharing the information James! Any chance you'd be willing to upload it (photos/pireps/etc.) to shortfield.com? There isn't much information on Salmon Bar in there.
