San Diego Area Recommendations

Not necessarily information about airstrips or airports, but more general info about a greater area or a route of flight.

San Diego Area Recommendations

I posted on another thread asking about Puerto Penasco but another option is San Diego.

Any recommendations on which airport to go into if going to the beach, which beaches are best, other things to do and places to stay? I'll probably rent a car for ground transportation.

Check out the San Diego portion of my trip report.

I flew into KMYF. Nice enough airport with friendly controllers, and not too expensive.

San Diego Area Recommendations

Phil,

Thanks for the info. Good to know about MYF or I may have avoided it altogether just because it's a big airport. Someone had mention La Jolla beach but I saw the talk about the seals. May need another option for a beach to hang out on, it sounds like.

Fly up to Lake Wohlford

8CL1 Lake Wohlford Resort Airport
Escondido, California, USA

There is a dirt road on the north side behind the hangars. Short walk to The Lake Wohlford Cafe. Real red neck joint.

Re: San Diego Area Recommendations

Mike I'm leaving in the am with the family. Will be there all week.

You gotta go to Cardiff and of course Tory Pines. Maybe even get a ride in a paraglider. All time paragliding there!

Camp Pendton has a beach that runs for miles. Sometimes decent surf.

Scrips is also down there and a good spot.

Mission beach has the best people watching...

If you get a real wild hair, cross the border and try not to get lost in TJ...and make certain you do not go see the donkey show...

Kevin, thanks that is great info. I'll be sure to check those places out when I get there.

It may be next weekend or later now. Work got in the way this weekend.

Have a great time with the family. I'm guessing you're kids will have a blast there.

Cheers,
Mike
