Sandy River, Oregon is for sale

About as nice as grass airstrips get. I hope someone with a strong love of aviation buys it.

Re: Sandy River, Oregon is for sale

There is a J-3 for sale on Barnstormers that is from Sandy, is the real estate sale for the same reason?

Re: Sandy River, Oregon is for sale

I hope someone buys it who will keep it open. Trouble is, per the webpage, the airport has a $10K monthly income ($120K a year). On a $2.5M investment, that's only about a 4.8% annual return on investment, not even counting property taxes and operating costs which have to come out of that. Unless there is some zoning, covenants, and/or easements which would prevent the runway from being closed, it probably makes more economic sense to subdivide the property and/or develop it for non-aviation uses.
It'd be nice if some rich aviation-minded person(s) bought these sort of airports up for the purpose of keeping them open-- IMHO, that'd do more tgood for the future of aviation than adding another P51 or whatever to the collection.

Eric ( I'm an airplane collector too- so far I have one)

A thousand of us could pitch in 2500 each then each get 10 bucks a month.

And that's before negotiating them down on the price.
I don't think you would ever make a positive cash flow, but with some tax benefits and then appreciation you might do OK.

Might being the operative word.

Re: Sandy River, Oregon is for sale

Generally speaking, owning & operating a small airport is a labor of love, not a money-making venture. To break even & have some fun is probably about the most you could hope for- but ain't that enough?

Bumping another old thread. I have not been out there in some years. Does anyone know the status of this airport?

Sandy River, Oregon is for sale

This post by me back in 2010 would today be a violation of the site rules for posting stuff for sale that you don't own. But I'll leave it here for posterity.

I think that is the airport that the Gold Rush folks own. They left the airport and went gold mining to stop from going bankrupt if I am not mistaken.

Yes its the Gold Rush folks' airport. Flew in and landed yesterday-didn't know about the sale. Its still open to the public, very nice grass strip, very nice hangars for rent, excellent bathrooms/shower. Sure hope it stays open to the public; it is a favorite of mine.
