If you stray west a bit further, Bistcho Lake in Alberta is a great fishing destination. Big strip that would be no problem for the Bo. They fly king airs in and out of there.

Here is a thread with some pictures I posted here. We've gone 2 more years since then and are headed back up again this summer.

Friend who flys floats only into his property suggested: Kasba Lake Lodge. I don't have any info on this at all.
Good luck

Re: Saskatchewan Pike Fishing ?

Tobin Lake Sk it’s a slot Lake with some huge pike 38” plus also good walleye. I stayed at silver tip resort nice rooms restaurant longe. They did rent boats and there is a real nice airport at Nipawin CYBU. I haven’t been up there for awhile since my fishing buddy passed away a few years ago I have lost interest. There’s 100,000 lakes in Saskatchewan and if your Beech had skis there is runways at them all this time of year.

Re: Saskatchewan Pike Fishing ?

Thanks for all the help/info and the invitation A1 . We might just drop in on you . I worked on and off for years in Western Canada -BC , ALB , SASK , Yukon . Grand Cache and Hinton AB areas are still places I’d love to visit again . Many life long friends there .
Since we have all retired , my three brothers and I jump in Brother Bill’s Bonanza late spring/early summer for a flightseeing trip somewhere out west here or up north . All four of us love to tie into big northern pike , our favorite game fish (great table fare too , in our opinion ).
We are still trying to sort out our 2020 trip but Bistcho Lake looks like our sort of place .

Thanks for the Tobin Lake tip David , I have some hunting buddies that have relatives close by there and have fished it often and always have a great time . We’ll take a look at that option too .

Pinecone, you might have to text me some coordinates, or just pick me up on your way by next time!
I agree on the jack being great eating. I actually prefer them to walleye. Amazing how many people have never tried them because they heard they are gross, or just dont care to fillet them because they are slimy. It's easy to learn how to cut them and end up with clean boneless fillets. Just all around good!

Re: Saskatchewan Pike Fishing ?

Posted that way somewhat to tease, but also, there are a lucky few of us who have cabins there, and we like the “few” theme. Not me in the photo. We caught that same fish twice. We may catch it again in 2020. It’s too big and valuable to keep. We do eat the smaller ones though. I never liked eating pike, until I tried true NORTHERN Pike.

Very unique method for filleting Pike. https://youtu.be/qahJqLCiOYw

The same lake has nice medium size Lake Trout. I really like eating the Lakers, but the Pike rivals them.

Re: Saskatchewan Pike Fishing ?

We always release the big ones if it looks like they will survive . I agree with you Pinecone , they are valuable and the idea of anyone being able to hook them again is well worth the effort to get them breathing again .
When we were kids our Dad used to take us fishing on Lake Of The Woods which straddles the Ontario/Minnesota border . On a few occasions I had the opportunity to go out and pull gill nets with the last (I was told ) commercial fisherman on the US side . One time , there were wildlife biology students from the U of Minn conducting age surveys on fish from a days haul in the fish house and I was shocked to learn that many of the big Pike were much older than I was .
I’ve told that story to my kids and grandkids. They also prefer to eat Pike over any other game fish. Only the healthy ones under 8lbs or so go in the cooler .

Where is that lake again ?

S.E. Yukon. That’s as specific as I can be in fairness to myself and my neighbours.

It’s one of my worries about ADS-B. I’m a proponent, but don’t really want to share my location with the web.

I agree northerns do taste good but if the lake they are in warms up the meat becomes soft and it gets a bad taste. The further north you go the better they taste.
