SatelliteViews.net

I found this site last night. Looks interesting. I did a quick search, but didn't see it on any threads here.

Re: SatelliteViews.net

Cool reverse approach to the Google maps usage: Index points of interest, then show them on the map, vs using the map as the starting point.

To anyone trying this, start by clicking "home" then choose a state, then "airports." Gump's links are specifically for Nevada.

Re: SatelliteViews.net

I discovered this site not long ago, and used it to pimpoint a grass strip I overflew about 5 south of a regular airport. Kinda easier to use that airport as a starting point, as opposed to a lat/long or just zooming down from a large scale map. The resolution was pretty good where I looked -- mainly Skagit County WA.

Re: SatelliteViews.net

I did a search for airports nearby. a few of them don't exist anymore. I did find this interesting one. It's an ag strip and it has a marriage proposal cut into the grass. You can clearly see " Amanda, will you marry me? " Perfect letters too. Very sweet.

Re: SatelliteViews.net

While scoping out this site, I discovered a new to me feature of AirNav. Private strip listings.

http://www.airnav.com/airports/us/NV?use=R

Seems the "?use=R" at the end of the link for the state opens it up. I'm sure it's in the advanced directions somewhere, but I was too dumb to find it till now.

In searching SatelliteViews.net home it goes all over the U.S, just pick out your state and go to Airports .

Re: SatelliteViews.net

Re: airnav........click "airports", then click "browse by state", then go to the bottom of the page & click "private use", then click the state you're interested in. FWIW airnav shows 125 public use airports in Washington, and 238 private ones.
I've been using airnav for years & while I've looked up individual private strips before, I never knew you could browse them like this. Thanks for pointing out this feature, Gump.
