I thought I'd start a new thread since this is a different topic from my Rans S7 thread. Another LSA that intrests me is the Savage Cub. I can't fing a lot of information on the internet regarding US dealers. Anybody know if they have a dealer network in the US? Lots of overseas dealers. Heck, if they don't have any in the US I might even want to BE one....

I have not flown one yet.
I did copy the manual as I thought I might get checked out in it.
The overall performance seems to be fairly good.

The one I know about is at Aerodynamic Aviation at the Reid Hillview Airport in San Jose Calif.
You could call them or find them online and ask.
This used to be the old Amelia Reid FBO.

The current owner has been to McCall and taken one of Lori's classes in a larger Cessna, BUT he is impressed enough with the Savage Cub that he keeps thinking of taking it back there.
It does climb out rather well even with two in it. Gotta get in slow or you could step through the bottom fabric. Floor board is minimal to save weight.

It is apparently light and "nimble" on the controls with but one bad habit.
Apparently there is no aerodynamic warning or burble before a stall.
It has been "dropped" while leveling out to flare at least once that I know of.
SO, ya really need to know the stall speed relative to load and stay a good bit above it.

Thanks Wannabe and Zane. Yea, I remember reading a review about the floor. I know how to be careful but I'd be pissed the first time a ham fisted (footed?) passenger did it!

It is pretty much a clone of an older S-7, not that there is anything wrong with that. A time honored aviation tradition, improving the designs of those who went before, just ask the Wright Brothers and Glenn Curtis, or Dean Wilson and Dan Denny, etc. etc..

It is a copy of an old S7, but I think there have been substantial refinements. I would also be surprised if you could easily put your foot through the floor. The S7 has floorboards that are not really big, but they cover enough that you would have to try and put your foot somewhere very unnatural to actually put it through fabric. I have never briefed a passenger on being careful with their feet. I would think the Savage would be the same.

I like the gear of the Savage. One reason whey me and Courierguy might be trying out some new gear soon on the S7's

I hadn't noticed the S7 heritage. As I mentioned in my S7 thread, I'm pretty close to saying screw the whole medical thing and going LSA. I could probably squeek by a few more 2nd class medicals, but I absolutely hate the intrusiveness of it. Like a lot of us I suppose, I like the Carbon Cub but besides price, it has a few other drawbacks - lack of a real rear seat probably being the most important (if the wife isn't happy, I'm not happy). I added the Savage to the pool of contenders as sort of an afterthought, but it looks like a capable little airplane though.

CarbonCub has a rear seat, just that one optioned model doesn't. But the std. carboncub does for sure.

The rear seat is a sling type affair. I guess it's a weight saving move. I thought it was kinda cool until I climbed into it and then tried to get out. You need to be a frickin' gymnast! Nothing to push on....

That's what I did - I think I'm in pretty good shape for an old fart and I finally was able to escape the thing...none too gracefully. I'm pretty sure the boss ain't gonna like it!

Agreed Matt, one thing though: when I fly with both doors off I notice a major difference, well a difference anyway, in how it side slips. With all that fabric still at the Poly Fiber plant, this thing would be, while great in cross winds, somewhat lacking in slip to dump altitude mode. I may have it wrong, but it sure seems like my bird doesn't fall out of the sky as well (when I want it to) with doors off. When I really want to max out my off airport capability, I make sure the doors are on, as slipping, along with flaps/throttle, airspeed control etc. are all part of my required tools, and I'd hate to give up the slip thing.

My opinion of the Savage company has gone up a notch, for them to have the cajones to not only think this thing up, but market it, very out there thinking!

That cream/black trim scheme is absolutely killer.

Zane - they must have been watching Swingle videos to get those colors??

The background in that photo looks like someone could be hiding the Bobber.........from the repo man?
Or maybe he hasn't told his CFO (wife) about his new purchase quite yet,.....waiting for just the right moment.......?
Maybe from the TAX man......
