save montana airstrips

Posted: Sat Oct 14, 2006 2:31 pm Post subject: ACTION REQUIRED - NEW MONTANA AIRPORTS to establish

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED... to open new Montana airstrips.....
Please download the ACTION ALERT and act if you like the idea of having more airstrips in Montana - DEADLINE IS OCT 20,2006

http://maulepilots.org/NEW_Airstrips.pdf

Bob's Message:
I got an E-mail from a good friend from Montana the other day (A C-180 pilot), he asked me to alert the Maule pilots of the need for us to contact the US Forest Service to ask them to open five remote airstrips to private pilots. These strips are in an area about fifty miles south east of Great Falls and are the type of strips our planes are made for.
They won't get opened with out input from us Maule, and other pilots!
I couldn't think of a way to get the attached alert on the forum, because it wouldn't be allowed by the system, so I'm writing you in hope that you can do that for me. This E-mail came while I was on a trip, so this is over a week old, and the deadline, Oct. 20 is coming fast.
Thank You very much for anything you can do to help.
Sincerely,
Bob Gillette, owner of the only M5-200

I thought Backcountrypilots.org should be aware of this, too.

The above "hot link" didn't come up in language I could identify (I think its Zaneglish or something) so, I had to copy and paste.

I wrote a little blurb and sent it. Read the first paragraph of the draft. Us pilots are criminals. :(

Message sent! In a world where airports are closing at an average of 1 every 2 weeks, and where there has been a fight to keep our backcountry strips open, of course I had to write when there is a chance to get more of them available for us to use!

Thanks for posting the info!!

I sent my comments. Thank you to Maulepilots for bringing this to our attention. I live next to the Lewis & Clark and was unaware that airstrips were even being considered in any of the draft travel plans.

MT is actually for Montana, as in Montana bowhunter, but Empty might be a more accurate characterization of my hunting success.
