Saying hello

I was flying over Pine Lemoray park recently and I saw some snowmobilers playing in the mountains. Because I am a child I couldn't resist dropping in to say hello :D

Re: Saying hello

The child in all of us, I can't resist doing the same either when I spot a pack of snowmobilers. Done a few helicopter medvac's lifting broken legs and whatnot from their playground too. That soundtrack at the beginning sounded like you had a seatbelt outside the door banging on the side (been there), but maybe just the opener to the heavy metal (soundtrack, not airplane).

"Some kind of mechanical trouble" seems to be a pretty common response to that song's intro. It's Cochise by Audioslave.

Re: Saying hello

Cool video. Looks similar to the Tumbler ridge area where I like to sled. Haven't made it out yet this year, hoping for a spring trip. Good song choice, Audioslave is always nice to hear.

That's some beautiful country for sure. What did you mount the camera to? I liked the location with no airplane visible for this one. Felt like I was flying!

This video was shot only about 50 miles from Tumbler Ridge (I actually flew right over Tumbler Ridge on the way home). Be careful if you do make it out for a trip. The wonky weather has made for some highly variable avalanche conditions this year. It's not been an awful year overall (despite the tragedy out towards McBride), but it seems like conditions vary wildly from weekend to weekend. The recent heating trend has helped to settle the snowpack, but here are a couple of deepish less stable layers (plus a crust that the warm weather has created) that have the potential to get quite ugly if we wind up getting another dump before spring.

I mounted it to the left tiedown ring. I normally include the nosewheel and part of the cowling when I set up the camera, but I thought I'd try something different this time. I like how it turned out.

So where is it from Tumbler? We usually sled at Babcock. Sometimes we are farther east at Red Deer falls. If north we are usually west of Chetwynd. Beaver creek is my favorite place there. Ya the temperatures and hore frost have made the snow pack quite unstable. And being in an avalanche isn't fun, experience talking.

It's about 50 miles WNW of Tumbler Ridge, in the south east corner of Pine Lemoray park.

I've been been in an avalanche, but as an avalanche responder I have dealt with the aftermath. It's not a good place to be.
