try New Cuyama maybe? It's out in the middle of nowhere NE of Santa Barbara.

AirNav pages says "LOOSE ROCKS ON RUNWAY, CRACKED AND SPALLED SURFACE" so it might be a good "LA backcountry" destination.
There's probably some better stuff out in San Bernardino County, maybe Indio.

New Cuyama is an interesting place. Ex Atlantic Richfield oil company airfield. No services, but a great steak can be had at the Buckhorn Saloon & Restaurant a quarter mile away from the field.
