SE UT trip report.

It's been a long time coming and finally I was able to break away from the rat race for a few days of flying and camping in SE UT. MTNWEST and I decided to spend a few nights at Mexican Mountain and explore the area.

Crossing CO and the high stuff.
Image

I've been dreaming about this for a while.

Great UT camping

Made an evening run up to Cedar Mtn

The next morning we stopped at the Green River Chevron for a coffee and some goodies

Playing in the dirt (Mineral Canyon)

Lots of wild flowers in bloom.

Big views in the cool air. (6250').

Hiking down to the slot, cool formations.

The next day we went south to Lake Powell.

I have not seen this desert plant/flower before, any ideas what it is?

Landing at Hite in a stiff cross wind.

Lake Powell and the Bullfrog marina (a windy afternoon).

At Halls Crossing we checked weather and saw a large system was moving in, so we fueled up and high tailed it back to CO that evening cutting our trip a night short.

Isolated weather in the distance

Beautiful lighting and scenery!

Overall a fantastic trip! The UT backcountry is like no place else. After a long wait, it's great to be back in the air! :)

Those pictures are absolutely phenomenal.

You truly have a gift with a camera.

What kind of camera and lenses were you using Matt?

Yes, MTNWEST has been in project mode as well. ;)

Thank you, but I give credit to UT, it's hard to take a bad picture there.

The camera is just a point and shoot Sony DSC-HX9V (nice zoom lens). I did edit a few of the pics (HDR style).

Thanks, MM

Re: SE UT trip report.

Matt, piling on here, but GREAT pix, and GREAT report. Glad you guys had time for more than just a quick hit-and-run.

I showed the pix to Girlscout, including the unknown plant; she's a Native Plants Master, but that region is beyond her knowledge and experience, so no help there. I'll see if we have any desert plant botanical keys laying around. On the bright side, I think I may have sold her on a trip to the area this fall :D

Thanks. cubscout

Haha, yes, the truth is finally out. I wasn't going to let a ridiculous looking half stripped plane get in the way of a spring Utah backcountry trip. More on that later.

I've been updating Shortfield.com with PIREPS and pictures. The airstrips we visited were in great shape. Got a chance to test out the freshly approved/installed GY26 tires and was happy with the handling.

Crescent Creek Narrows

Here are the coords we entered at 38° 4'48.41"N 110°41'24.80"W and hiked west about 3/4 mile. It's a short hike but pretty sweet. The airstrip right next to it makes it a fun mid day activity. Beware of rain and flash flooding though!

Re: SE UT trip report.

Finally Matt! I was starting to think that you had stopped flying! You've been way too quiet lately!

Loved the pics. How rocky was Eagel City? Looking for an easy access slot to go to. This seems to fit the bill.
