Re: Sean's (GPTC) Airborne Adventures

A .22 would be a perfect gun for turkey hunting. Though in Oregon you have to use a bow or shotgun. I just have a beater Remington 870 with turkey loads.

It's almost unsporting because all the turkey I have come across, at least in the Grants Pass area, aren't really afraid of humans. You can get very close. I always thought it would be more sporting to go for a headshot with a .22.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Turkeys have become a nuisance bird in most of SO. Mine was harvested 30 ft off the Beagle airstrip. Hate to hit this big bird in any plane.

They're not unafraid f humans, but 22 pistol & headshots is how I hunt grouse. Very sporting.
Have you ever noticed that even a dead grouse manages to launch itself and fly about 100 yards down a steep-ass hill, and end up hidden underneath something?

Did a little web cam recon prior to the flight and concluded that the strip would be free of snow. Though there was a hefty amount of frost in the AM. Was good to get the first camping trip of the season nice and early again. Let's set a date for Powers/McKenzie Bridge, Tokettee, whatever.

No flying today, though I should of. Instead I cleaned the belly. The most hated task of aircraft ownership.

Checking out runway 10 at Calvert Peak. In all seriousness, since it is legal to land on BLM ground how does it work for a strip with X's?

Took my first solo flight with my son today. We ran up to Cottage Grove for the Sternman Fly-In and the over to a private grass strip to visit family. All in all went well.
