BCP has never promoted any seat makers/upholsterers besides Sport Aircraft Seats. Please make the distinction that the person in AZ was recommended by another user here. Thanks.

That is correct Zane which is why I didn't say advertiser or sponsor which is the terminology I have seen you use in the past - for additional clarification it was indeed via BCP user - not management.

And for the record, I have heard that the vendor you're talking about has since fallen out of favor with that BCP user who originally recommended them. Sorry you were a consumer of those services.

@sports aircraft seats
I'm really interested in the seat covers you produce - as you can see from the thread - mine need repair....

- Is it possible to get a sample of the material used - both the leather and fabric - I've always had leather but thinking about fabric this time around.
- For the Pilot Seat Detachable Seat Pocket Bag - is that something that can be ordered later or do you only sew in the hooks in the seats if they are selected at order time?

I am interested in seeing some pics of the upholstery you offer for the atlee dodge and lakevue jumpseats.

Re: Seat upholstery by Sport Aircraft Seats

Another shout out for Daniel. I had him redo my front 180 seats a couple years ago. Basically dropped off two old junker original seats and Daniel made them better than new. His brother Mario is also a talented mechanic and welder, so in my case he was able to strip, repair, and repaint the frames as well as reupholster. I got the seats back lighter and better looking than the cane from the factory, plus Daniel fit extra foam for my short ass to see better in off airport ops. Two years of hard use and they are standing up excellently.

Re: Seat upholstery by Sport Aircraft Seats

Those seats still look like new. Nothing wrong with your seats, but I do see a major fit/finish improvement in the leather seats being produced currently by SAS. Great to see continual improvement and development. I am really liking the simplicity of the new velcro on back seat. As soon as the exchange rate improves a bit my order is going in.

What do the cushions for carbon fiber rear cub seat look like ? Does it just Velcro on ?

They are cushions that velcro to the seat pans. the back rest has a little pocket that the carbon fiber board slides into at the top and velcro at the bottom.

I really like this - couple questions.
- What is the weight capacity of the webbing, since the seat will not be cinched around the frame the entire weight is born by the webbing flaps that are glued to the frame?
- Can you paint the flaps after you have glued them down so they blend into the frame more - will the paint effect the glue.

Sorry I'm suspect of the webbing and glue as I had a pair of seats done by a guy in arizona that has been promoted on this site before, and they were terrible - poorly glued leather and webbing came undone while I was flying and I partial sunk down in the seat.(and he would not fix them)

I don't know the weight capacity but I do know that it is stronger than you need for this application and you aren't going to get a significant amount of extra strength from the upholstery being glued around it. We have jumped on these trying to make them fail and have been unable to do anything other than stretch the grey material(hurculite) a bit. The glue we use is called Poly Tak, and it holds very well. The problem with upholstery glues is that they usually do not do well in warm or cold weather. For that reason we don't use these glues on to connect the seats to the frames for. Also, if one was to break, we would totally fix it :-)

I don't know about all types of paints but for all that I have tried you can totally paint the frames after. the hurculite doesn't do well being painted so I would recommend masking it off.

I have had a few people point that out. Here are the weights I was using.

A customers seat weighed 40lbs prior to installing our kit. I should have clarified that was an extreme example.

the frame with the webbing glued on is around 10lbs.

cushions are around 10lbs.

so in your case you would save about 18 with out the cushions and 8 with.

Thanks for pointing that out though, probably the last time I use hard numbers with something as varying as upholstery.

We can send you samples. email us from the website with your address and what colors you are looking for or call me if you want to discus options before hand.

Great looking seats and thanks for participating in the forum. It's always really nice to have vendors who are engaged like this. [emoji1360]

I hope I wear out the seats in one of my planes so I can try you out.

Have you done any experimental seats? Also wondering about the possibility of putting electric heat elements in the seats?

Re: Seat upholstery by Sport Aircraft Seats

Dan did all the seats in my Super 170B a few years ago. To this day, they look and feel great. He sets the padding so perfect it is the only seat I can sit with comfort for 4 hrs. Install is easy, fit is perfect. I went with cloth for the cool and breathing factor. Got rid of all the 50 yr old springs and started with PolyFiber over the frames. Thank you Daniel!!

Re: Seat upholstery by Sport Aircraft Seats

We recently did our first Carbon Cub seat. Like the Cessna seat kits we make, this can be easily installed by the customer. Excuse the messy shop, we have a lot of work right now, partly thanks to BCP :)
