Be careful with wing jacks, this happened at a reputable business.

I wonder if any bad word were used? I've used my way before( one side at a time) and like it if I couldn't use seaplane lift points.

The Ponk brackets are machined on the underside cutout. (Bottom of where the Jesus bolt goes thru) (depending on what gear you have) I believe the Ti gear is 0.090 thicker, which is just at the limit of what can be machined from the Ponk fitting. The shimming is meant to be used for leveling the A/C (remove material from the bracket and add shims under the gear ear.)

When I put my Ponk kit in, I shimmed the bracket up around 0.125 so I would have room to install Ti gear (if my wallet was ever that thick) and still have room if I ever needed more to correct a level issue down the road.

IMO this looks like they tried to jack the plane up in a 3-point stance without the jack pad being secured to the plane. However it happened..ouch #-o

Re: Shiny new leaggs

So it's not this bracket that gets modified? I always thought that the opening had to be enlarged to accomodate the thicker gear.

Geez, if those brackets had to be "sent out", the gear would only be half the cost of this upgrade

Good thing, there's plenty of room in those holes. Maybe thinner shims on the wedges, or no shims at all. =D>

Those brackets (gear boxes) are Pponk's replacements for Cessna original parts, you need to take the belly half apart to remove and replace those. The hole in the gear boxes is plenty big to feed the gear leg thru, thick steel shims are used to tighten up the fit once installed.

The brackets he's needing to have machined are part of the Pponk MLG reinforcement kit. They clamp down and stabilize the inner ear of the landing gear leg. If you fit the block tight to your less than late model thickness gear leg on initial install and then buy a big boy set of gear later on the block will need to be trimmed.

Big Renna alluded to a pro tip earlier, if you are installing the Pponk beef up kit and you think there's any chance you might go to 185 or Tom's Ti gear later on, have your installer shim to the larger size. YMMV

That's what I was thinking----quite an undertaking if you removed them. I thought you enlarged them in place after the gear was removed. Also, I thought to remove and replace like Russ had Beegles do, that the thick skin on top in front of the seat tracks was curled up enough after the rivets were drilled out.

Look at those brackets real close, I had granular corrosion on both sides of mine just for R&R it was $5k (included the Pponk beef up install) the brackets are about $700 from Pponk. Beagles quotes 40-50 hours and had it done in like 2 weeks. Excellent workmanship, heck they even found a bucking bar I left in the belly [-X and gave it back to me #-o honest people :D I tell you.

That's exactly what happened.
