Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

I had to fly up to Grants Pass and get Allie. The wife was visiting a friend and said Allie was misbehaving

I know, hard to believe, I guess she takes after me :)

roamak wrote:Anyone ever try foam ear plugs in their dogs? I use them all the time now, cant keep the muffs on to save their butt. They seem way more content and no scratching, pawing, nothing. To me the muffs just dont seem like they can seal out the noise that great. Roll em up, stick em in, done. Will have to get some pics next ride out...

I've been using the foam plugs on my dogs for years. However, on some flights they will shake their heads and get them out. The mighty O-300 pulled back to economy cruise doesn't make very much noise anyway.

Not my picture and not me. Just thought it was a worthy picture to share from Flightaware.com

In fact, all these pictures are from FlightAware.com

Awesome photos all! Never tried taking my old lab flying. Not sure he'd get on with the noise as he's a bit of a scaredy cat!

Be careful, they might want to take over the controls.

Matt, Those a new version of Doggles? Are they better than the old version? Duke hates his Doggles.

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

I can't post a pic till we get the new site up, too much trouble to figure out how to do it some other way.

Anyway, I had to put down my old Badger dog a couple weeks ago, he may have been the only dog in the world to ride in a plane, a truck, an airboat, four wheeler all in the same day. He was my best friend for just over fourteen years. He's been gone now for a few weeks and I still look for him a dozen times a day.

I have a new pup coming soon, he won't replace Badger but I hope he will be my partner in crime too.

I will post pictures of Badger when I can.

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

I feel your pain, shorton... We just lost our border collie Annie a few weeks ago. I never thought we'd have to say goodbye so soon since she was only around 9 or 10 (rescue dog). I didn't get to take her flying but she went everywhere else with us!

Our next puppy is born and in about 7 weeks we'll get to pick her up. No replacement, but hopefully another great companion!

That's sad, I'm sorry for your loss. I'm not looking forward to that day when we have to say goodbye to Tieton. Hopefully that won't be for a long time. Here's a picture of her flying with us last weekend.

Doing aerobatics in the 170 Rob? That's an impressive positive G barrel roll! :D Tieton doesn't seem phased at all!

Sorry to hear about your dog, Shane. It's amazing how long the memories stick with you.

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

Got me a new co-pilot and would like to keep his hearing, anybody got a set of Mutt Muffs for a medium size dog that are not being used? I hate to buy them new just to find out he won't tolerate them.

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

I'm also curious how well the mutt muffs will work. The wife suggested get him in the plane first and fire up, then put the ear muffs on so he might notice the noise reduction....Any thoughts? haven't tried it yet.

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

My dogs sport Mutt Muffs and it seems to help.
I think the foam that comes in them, at least back when I purchased mine, is a bit low quality.
I intend to find some foam that comes, for example, in quality headsets to replace it and take the critters for a test drive.
I'll report back.
If someone beats me to it, let us know how it works.

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

Old Hoser spend thousands of hours in Sleds with no hearing protection whatsoever, and his hearing was fine up until he was about 14. Then, we let him stick around too close on a day at the range sighting in our rifles, and he went pretty much stone deaf all at once...

Hoser, never meet the lad.
Something tells me we need to hoist a cold one in his honor!

At the range? He probably went deaf voluntarily so he didn't have to listen to the BS :)
Dogs have that sixth sense :)
Regardless, here's to Hoser!
