As I neared Sierra Valley the smoke started getting heavy and looking toward Quincy it was really thick. I decided to land at Sierraville Dearwater (O79) for breakfast instead. I've never landed there before but entered a right downwind for 21 as my flightguide suggested and landed. The paved runway is in excellent shape as is the taxiway, however the parking ramp is overgrown and deteriorated and good luck finding tiedowns.
The walk to town is about a mile and took me less than 20 minutes. The Roundup Cafe serves a great breakfast and I really appreciated the walk back to the plane afterward. There's a good Mexican restaurant as well, Los Dos Hermanos, but it was closed and they didn't have any hours posted.
Back at the plane I realized I should have "gone" while I was in town as there is no outhouse on the airport or any other services for that matter.
I've enjoyed stopping here on my motorcycle rides and can recommend Sierraville as a fly-in breakfast or lunch spot.
