Skis slow me down

A spur of the moment (my planned fly to work day got changed due to fog, so I aimed where it was blue sky) trip to Afton Wyoming for lunch. The Husky factory is just out of the picture to the left.Image Just a little over 60 miles of pretty remote country, mostly very islolated farms and summertime grazing ground and mountains, it took me over 3 hours to cover that distance thanks to the skis.Image I realized I could start an addition to my summertime collection of old shacks I've landed by, a winter time version. I landed by 11 of them total, and twice that number of other landings just because it was all untracked mountain snow and needed to be tracked up a bit. LOTS of snow this year in my backyard, most places it was sinking in up to your crotch without snowshoes. Image A lot of history in these old places....Image All of the sites had some sort of slope to them, except for Afton, landing on skis on these sites is like playing pool on a tilted table, or putting on a sloped green, it really adds a whole additional dimension to off airport landings, and it was chess like in planning moves ahead before landing, in particular the turn around for takeoff.Image No flying today due to fog, but we got 10" of fresh powder so another great day up on the ski mountain, I have yet to have a half day of powder boarding, and then go ski flying, but it'll happen, unless work screws things up. I figure I averaged 20 mph on the flight home, damn skis!ImageImage

Sorry, I gotta ask. Do you have permission to land there?
I look at places like that all the time but never land.
Just curious.

Cool pics as usual.

I was going to fly up through Hell's Canyon today, but I've been fogged in all day. Courierguy, don't act surprised when I hire a thug to have you soundly beaten! [-X

Those damn skis are gonna break ya. Cut your losses. Send them to me I'll even go half on the freight, you'll save a bundle on fuel and you will have some free time again. This is Win Win.

She's either got to be tiny, or that's one big mattress sized piece of toast!

Do you ever have to worry about barb wire fences under the snow?
