That is amazing footage. Even more amazing everyone got out and survived.
Plus preserving one plane. Easily could have been worse.

I'm trying to figure out why the right wing came off the 206. The landing gear on the 185 never hit that side of the top of the 206.

My coworker and I are speculating that the right gear on the 180 hit first and caused it to yaw right and pitch nose down. When this happened the 180's propeller sawed though the right wing of the 206.

Crazy stuff. Totally amazing to see it from multiple shots. Thank goodness they all survived.

KTVB television in Boise reported this as a "head on collision", so much for accuracy in the news.

I wonder what kind of formation briefing took place? Looked like the pilot drifted right and lost altitude when the jumpers got out on the strut. I'm still amazed everyone got out.

My wife did some sky diving about 40 years ago. She says she never saw a jump pilot wear a parachute. How often do the pilots wear one now days?

Regs say every time.

And smart ones follow that rule. There is so much potential for bad shit to happen with every load you haul up.

Re: Skydive midair video - All survive

Okay, that makes sense. We were just wondering why the other pilot didn't jump and thought he probably didn't have a chute. He must have been pretty confident his plane was good to land.

Re: Skydive midair video - All survive

I saw a interview of the 185 pilot he said after the planes separated he checked all the flight controls which were good so he rode the plane all the way down. don't jump out of a plane that is still flying.

Re: Skydive midair video - All survive

I love to fly, but I have one inviolable rule: Do not get out of a perfectly good airplane unless it is parked on the ground. So I have a lot of trouble understanding why anyone wants to skydive. Not criticizing; just sayin'. But I am glad the injuries in this case were so minor and that everyone survived.

Re: Skydive midair video - All survive

I'm a professional jump pilot that was trained in formation by an ex Red Baron. I've been in up to 9 plane formations dropping 200 jumpers. I don't like to speculate, but I have some opinions on this accident. For all you would be formation pilots.....there's a whole lot more to it than you imagine, especially when you get jumpers out on the strut. So glad everyone got out ok.
