Sometimes the most fun way to get into the backcountry, Part 103 Ultralights and Light Sport Aircraft have their own considerations.

Skyraider Super

Hello to the forum, I would like to ask if anyone has had any experience with the kit aircraft Skyraider super or Skyraider II. I am interested based on its useful load stated at over 700 lbs, for a tandem LSA is this great. I want to start building my first LSA, initial thoughts were to do an S7 but found the skyraider mid last week. Please comment as to any thoughts or experience with this bird or the S7. I have read 1000's of post about the S7 and know its fantastic, I just want to cover all the bases prior to the build.
Thanks to the group

Re: Skyraider Super

We have a member based in the Phillippines who flies one on here. There's also a guy who goes by horsepower on www.avidfoxflyers.com who is finishing one up. It's a pretty good little airplane and is a direct descendent of the Avid Flyer and Kitfox which should be one of your considerations also unless your stuck on tandem. Pretty hard to beat the performance and factory support of an S-7 though if that's what your after.

I think that's actually a Ridge Runner from Rocky Mountain Wings. Similar though.

Re: Skyraider Super

It is very similar to a Ridge Runner in some respects. The Super in particular looks like quite the tuff machine with those bigger tires. The design and size of the wing is identical to an RR and Just Air Escapade and nearly identical in design to the Kitfox. As far as the claimed 700 lb useful load, I would inquire further about that.

I've got a Ridge Runner, and another RR being custom built at the shop. If you like a small, agile and fun little taildragger, call up Stace at Rocky Mountain Wings. He's a super nice guy, puts his heart into every build and is able to customize your plane to suit your mission parameters. (www.realflying.com).

Re: Skyraider Super

I am building a SkyRaider right now.
If you go with a SkyRaider you will be on your own as soon as you give them your money. It took me 8mo. to get all of the parts for the kit.
They will not respond to phone calls or E-Mails. I am Missing 2 of the false ribs and can NOT get them.
The Schraders are building & selling the Ridge Runner now.
Had a Friend that had a KitFox....was a nice plane.
I would NOT recomend the Sky Raider..... NO support after the sale

Re: Skyraider Super

I'll throw my vote in for the Ridge Runner. Building one now. Small operation, great customer service, always answers the phone or promptly returns calls. Only down side is that a five minute call about a building question inevitably turns into a half hour session talking about airplanes!
