skywagon exhaust fairing

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

The short answer is no. Mapleleaf is however looking into the issue of the left side fairing later this year. I will update their progress once they have some, as they are only a few miles away from me.

Re: skywagon exhaust fairing

I put the exhaust fairing from Selkirk on my Selkirk cowled Wagon. I had no interest in speed gains, doubt it helps for that anyway. I was looking to balance my CHT’s by reducing the amount of air being scooped into the exhaust hole. My copilot side CHT’s ran a little hotter than my left. After installing, I noticed the CHT’s being more balanced from left to right. I’d do it again. Any protection I might see towards the exhaust I’d count as worth it as well. YMMV

Re: skywagon exhaust fairing

Temp wise I did the cowl louvers, STC came from the sky wagon club, forgot where I got the louvers, could look it up, but looks pretty mean, they are metal, and it did drop my CHTs a little under 10f, also wasn’t super expensive.

I wasn’t really looking to reduce my temps, it runs cool enough that I can control what I need with the cowl flaps. I’ve heard the louvers do help with that, BVT out of AUS. sells them. I was looking for getting things to line up temp wise. I like being able to control all the exit air, especially for reduced power operations.

How do you like the composite cowl?

I saw these years back and it perked my interest

Much of a weight savings or other good gains? Price was they seemed like a very good deal as I remember

I really like it, it turned out great. Top notch product, but it isn’t cheap. Pricing is on their website. No weight savings. My original cowl was hammered and I wanted it to look nice, no regrets. I ended up putting the Quasar wingtips on which is where my landing and taxi lights are so I didn’t put the landing lights in the lower cowl. YMMV
