sling-n-oil......

Questions ? Bought another "flying project"

100 hp Cub with 0200A.... it throws oil faster than Exxon.

It has a oil seperator but fills drain tube in less than an hour....

Prior owner said he never ran more than 3.5 qts as any more vacated the engine, but running less than 4 qts seems crazy?

I recall some fix for breathers on Lil. Conts. ?? Does anyone have any input on this? Ideas, advise would be great.....

Thanks

Howdy Glaciercub,

The breather is usually a fitting on the right front, and if I remember it is open on the end. I have heard of people plugging the end with a short tube and then drilling a hole on the side to where the oil slung at the fitting wont go directly into the breather fitting. Here are a few ??'s for you.

What type of separator do you have and where is its location?
Is the drain tubing plugged or very restrictive?
Is the breather partialy plugged itself?
Also you say slinging oil, is it from the front seal?

If the breather is plugged with sludge/etc. it will push oil out the front seal.

Hope this helps

What I've heard about modifying the breather.... remove the elbow screwed into the crancase, silver-solder a tube into it that will stick into the engine. I don't know how long a tube-- I've heard that maybe Cessna made a special part for the 150 Aerobat.
Screw the elbow back in, but end p with it pointed lightly up as well as aft. Run the breather hose slightly up before going aft & then down.
The extended elbow will reduce amount of oil going into breather, the up on the elbow & hose will encourage oil & oily mist that does get in there to run back into the case.
But if it's puking that much oil, I don't know if any of this will help.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

Struck Oil !

Front seal is AOK... Will check out breather fitting and then move on to your suggestions. I read an article this morning that addresses some of this issue and see it is a long standing with
0200...There must be a way to resolve problem, any more input
always welcome :D

hotrod150 is correct. The part exists, is available at a stupid price, and sometimes doesn't help. What are your compressions?

One can have blow-by by the bottom of the bores being worn, but not usually if they are as good as 76 or 78. If it's overwhelming the oil seperator, you have a problem. Oil seperators are band aids, you shouldn't need one. I think I would pull the jugs if I couldn't find an easy fix. Lycoming has a procedure of attaching an A/S indicator to the crankcase as a way of measuring crankcase pressure. Not sure if it would work the same for a little Conti.
Don't forget the valve guides.
