Re: Somebody, explain to me……

I have a cub and my buddy has a nice 185. He has been flying about 20 years longer than me and flys for a living. He gets there faster and can carry more than me. But it is the cub that picks up the meat of the short bar so we don't have to hump it back to the 185. When we fly off the short strips I will carry as much as the 185. I had a pacer before the cub and have been to most of the places I have flown the cub. Lots of planes will do the job if you have a 700 ft strip. The cub is the gold standard for off field work and that gold is worth it to some who want the extra 10%! :D :D

Well, looks like my fat ass won't fit in the Cub.
For now, going to keep the 185.
Thanks for all the comments, but if the 185 won't do it for me, I'll probably get out of aviation.
A guy can purchase a pretty nice AWD truck for $30 to $40K and see some nice country "close up" instead of getting to those places quickly in a $125K airplane.
Weather has never been an issue in my pickup truck and I've never had to scrimp on camping gear in the "Old" truck.
Maybe after 15000 hours of flying, it's time to hang it up!
I'll get back to you in twelve months with the verdict.
Thanks for your comments.

Well, good luck "getting out of avation".... [-X
Yes, it can be done. But flying, and especially haveing access to your own plane is positively ADICTING.
The worst thing that can happen to a "separating" aviator is a beautiful calm CAVU day that starts the aviation juices flowing.
It might be sorta like sex. Some day I will be old enough that I can live without and it won't bother me. I am currently old enough I can imagine that happening some day, but it is no closer than that!

Didn't mean to get personal-but I figured it was something with a VERY strong draw/attraction we could (almost) all relate to/too.... #-o

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).
Success has many fathers...... Failure is an orphan.

Perhaps a different road would suit your purposes!
Say....a 150hp Pacer, with maybe extended wings?
Would do what most of what a SC &185 would do,
at a very reasonable cost.....just sayin..

Mark, Mark, Mark, let's not get all maudlin on us now  . You and I have been around this bidness of aviating long enough to realize that flying is a psychosis, after all is said and done. And checking yourself into rehab does little good for us hard core deranged types  .

Hang in there, man....there is hope (and wider fuselages) for those of us with this affliction.

And, thanks for the tour of the "Jet powered computer" the other day....fascinating, for sure.
