Yeah, sorry you couldn't all be at our EAA Chapter #794 meeting this past Monday night, Nov. 5th.
Susanville, CA Municipal Airport (KSVE) is a friendly little rural airport, with its share of taildraggers and backcountry wannabes. Luckily for us, we're just a short flight from Truckee, CA where Kevin Quinn, also known as "AKTahoe" on this forum bases his impressive C180. You've all seen some of his great photos and videos here, and Kevin generously agreed to fly on up and share more of them with us for our meeting/BBQ last night.
I base our C170B at Susanville, and I've gotten to land a couple of spots with Kevin and have enjoyed following his exploits on the BCP Forum and at his BigTirePilot blog. Well, last night a whole bunch of us got to see some other sides to Kevin's enviable life and pursuits...
Heli-Skiing in Alaska, stories of his childhood in Anchorage and learning to fly (on floats before wheels!), magnificent Antarctic scenery complete with wildlife, ski outings and polar-bear plungers, and of course lots of exciting backcountry flying photos. Special for we Lassen County pilots were the photos of how much of our own backyard is accessible to the properly-prepared plane and pilot. I'm tiptoeing in Kevin's footsteps, and looking forward to learning a lot more about using the 170 for its intended purpose!
