Sport Pilot Checkride Passed!

Flew over to KJER this morning to retake the portions of my checkride I failed a couple of months ago: takeoffs and landings. The DPE very correctly failed me for those my first time around (I'm pretty sure they might have been my worst ever). So, I've spent the last month just working on my takeoffs and landings to improve my accuracy and consistency. Definitely worth it! As the examiner said, it's nice when the flying takes less time than the paperwork. :D

I think I might look just a bit happy. I thought about putting my scarf on for the photo so it would be sticking straight out with the 19+8 gust knot wind...

Next steps: controlled airport and tailwheel endorsements. Anyone have a recommendation for a tailwheel instructor with an LSA out here?

Yeah, seems I've barely had time to get normal stuff done. And replacing the head gasket on my car kind of slowed things down. But I didn't want those 60 days to expire, so there were some times flying took priority over other stuff (including reading BCP). :P

Good show! Congratulations! :!: =D> 8)

It is a license to learn. Always keep your brain out ahead of the airplane.

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

Great Job. Feels good to get that behind you and go out and enjoy. Good sign that you are looking for more learning experiences too. :!:

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: Sport Pilot Checkride Passed!

Ditto the above. Congratulations. You will have many happy years ahead with this obsession of ours. The Kitfox site has a link to a guy doing tailwheel and mountain flying instruction there in Idaho. I don't think he's near IF though.

Congratulations! Passing the check ride is probably one of the most rewarding things I've experienced in life after the birth of my kids. It's a great accomplishment. Now enjoy the freedom.

Re: Sport Pilot Checkride Passed!

It's a great feeling to finish that up isn't it? Takes some pressure off to get that checkride done and get to go out and learn leisurely. And don't let anyone give you crap about being a sport pilot. From one sport pilot to another, good stick and rudder skills, as well as good decision making, do not have anything to do with whether the airplane is 1320lbs or 1321lbs...

Be safe and have a blast!

Re: Sport Pilot Checkride Passed!

I second that. In fact I'm thinking of flying under sport pilot rules from here on out. I don't have any medical problems other than being a short fat guy. But it's getting harder and more expensive to find a place to get a medical around here. I'm not flying combat, I'm flying a 700 lb airplane to dirt strips. Light Sport will work just fine.

Re: Sport Pilot Checkride Passed!

Congratulations to the OP. I'm wondering what kind of airplane that is? It does not look like any S-LSA that I know, so it may be an RV (an experimental) - except that RVs are typically too heavy to qualify.

Thanks! It's a Zodiac CH601XL (S-LSA).
