FYI: the SPOT company told me on two separate occasions, that the rebate could be used with the BCP 10% discount (at skymountaingear.com), but I was concerned so I asked them to email me a confirmation (so I'd have it in writing) and then they told me that the 10% discount wasn't valid with the rebate offer.

However, they did say that I could offer free shipping with the rebate. So, if you order one from me, DON'T USE THE COUPON CODE. Pay full price ($149.95) and I'll refund the shipping cost.

For those of you who have already ordered one, don't worry. They are on the way and the discount/free shipping will be honored.

I have had mine about a year now and once I got the hang of how it worked I really enjoy having the peace of mind it gives the family and myself if needed.. The tracking is worth the extra cost and enjoyable to review after the flight.

Just went to Cosco (Kirkland WA) and noticed they had just a few "Spot's" left so I snagged one. Their almost sold out. $200 with a $50 mail in rebate and a year's free tracking.

Just saw these things at our nearby Costco. What do you think anyone? There's a couple a different types of these things. I want to get the best bang for my buck. This seems like a good price for what it claims to do. Anyone have an opinion on the "Spot" unit??

I just got one of these SPOT units at Costco 199 bucks plus tax. What does everyone who has one think of the "tracking " -is it worth the extra 50 bucks
(there goes my rebate) If you use it in your airplane where does unit get best signal ? Read in the instructions to keep it a foot or more from the GPS stuff -anybody have any experience with that. Thanks now my wife can find me when she wants.

I keep mine up on top of the panel on the far left. I should velcro it more in the center of the dash. But works really well no matter what direction I'm flying.

The extra 50 bucks is more than worth it!! Gives the family some piece of mind!!

I bought a spot and paid for the tracking (still waiting on the rebate check ), and if the operator presses the buttons correctly upon takeoff a nice track is created. I'm the type that would completely forget to hit the ok button.

The tracking has a downside, once the family gets used to depending on it - On my way to San Diego last Friday evidently I didn't get the tracking set and it only recorded my takeoff at KSAC.......Needless to say when I called the family for pickup inbound on the 45....er.....on the ramp I got an earful on how they thought I was stuck on the ground in KSAC. Told them I was a little busy at the then present time......(parking the plane of course) and would discuss it with them later.

Anyhoo, lesson learned to double check both buttons are blinking!!!

You can add SPOT URL to your signature ( go to profile on SPOT an it provides the URL to paste to your signature) and if you go missing in an area where there are some fellow BCP we will help look for you if your contact lets the BCP group know you are missing.

Added a couple of pieces of Velcro to my unit. Found that if you have Rosen
sun visors Spot unit will clip on (keep SPOT logo facing up ) also works.
Tried out my unit today Around town and out to airport. Tomorrow I'll fly it out to the Grand Canyon for New Years day . See how it will work in airplane. Try to link SPOT page to Backcountry and Shortfielder sites.

Does anyone know how to tell me how to link my recent trip to Alaska to this web site or otheres?Simple instructions -I'm not a computer geek yet_"remove part X and replace with XX or so on". I've looked at the "messages " and it worked all the way from Los Angeles area to Anchorage -every 10 mim. was a report. I'd like to put that for everyone to see.
