Spy VS. Spy

Please hit play while you read this!

I'm not sure why spy vs. spy came to my mind here. Perhaps it is dream vs. dream. This category is "Theory, Practice and Procedures".... so I am asking for some advice, here. Your theory on the proper procedure.

My wife, has a dream for a bigger house with a bigger better kitchen. You see where I am going here. The only thing in the way is the Maule. She has been very generous over the years in accommodating my dream of owning an airplane. Here is the question. Should I sell the Maule and buy a quarter share of a 182RG? And then buy Kitty a bigger house? In other words....can man live without big tires and a tail wheel?

Re: Spy VS. Spy

Yes. I'm not sure about the RG part, but I had a 1/5th share of a 172 with a 220 Franklin once and with the right partners co-ownership is a grand bargain. Besides, we don't own airplanes, we just rent them for awhile. There will be another one come along sometime.

I couldn't.

In all fairness, I've had to take a few toys out of the toy box, and all that remains is the Stinson. Perhaps one of these days that will be gone too, so I enjoy it as much as I can. A 182 is a nice toy to have though. ;)

Re: Spy VS. Spy

A wise man once said that compromise is the art of dividing a cake in such a way that everyone believes he has the biggest piece.

Perhaps this will cause you to decide whether sole ownership is really right for you, with all it's PITA bs. Or not.

In order to preserve the ownership of OUR airplane relative to all the other financial priorities in our marriage I've given up other toys and activities. One day the airplane might be prioritized out the door, or maybe not. Where is it on your list?

I think there are more than a few of us that may/might/are in a similar situation. As my younger brother told me when I got into the airplane business, don't let it cost you a marriage...a good wife is harder to find than a good airplane! Now I know this will cause the dissention to come raining in...but, we must all make the decision for ourselves. Remember: if the wife isn't happy, nobody's gonna be happy! I hope this time has not come for you Mark, but when decision time comes living in a Maule may not be the best way to go.
Hope all is well with you and Kitty.

The faster I go , the farther behind I get.

Re: Spy VS. Spy

maybe not a 182 RG due to the fact that the mains are really small! However I have the Mooney (I have 6.600's and a 5 on the nose) and I go to some great places!

Way underrated airplane for dirt and grass. I had a M20C. They get in shorter than they get out though. We used to take ours into Columbia, CA. Land on the grass. TO on the tarmac. Just cautious.

   well I've just lost all respect for Kitty [-X

how bout a later model 182 (wider Fuselage) Stiff leg, back seat is big, and good enough for some back country strips. Or is she (or you) getting to the point that roughing it is a Days Inn :?:

Awwww, come on, grow a pair... Use my line.

"You can always sleep in the airplane, but you can't fly a house."

Swear to Dog, I told number one ex that while having the same discussion. Six months later I was living out of the back of my '56 C180 for the summer in Barrow. She got the house, I kept that airplane (until ex #2's lawyers got a hold of it)

Re: Spy VS. Spy

I'll bet your sure gonna miss her.

The other option is a move to the bush. There are some pretty nice houses for sale, and you have to use the airplane to go to town...puts the shoe on the other foot. When I talk about getting rid of the airplane, I get to love my fist for awhile.

Get Kitty a job, use the money to buy her a new house with a big kitchen on an airport and keep the Maule.

Spy VS. Spy

Could you build a kitchen addition, and keep the plane?

Re: Spy VS. Spy

So many options to this situation:
- wife gets job and works lots of hrs so you can travel light and buy lots of fuel
- wife gets a job and works lots, you get to help with laundry ,housekeeping and cooking- you will really enjoy the bigger kitchen.
- you get a job that pays double the money for only three days work a week
- you get a second job and work weekends, your never home to eat and the plane never flies, plane and big kitchen no longer required
SO MANY CHOICES (hehe)

Rule #1 If the wife's not happy, nobody's happy

Rule #2 If the wife's not happy long enough, your going to get a younger girl friend but minus half your stuff.

Life is full of choices. I have met Miss Kitty. Get rid of the plane. Or cry like a Hollywood actor and she will say never mind the kitchen I didn't know the Maule was that important to you. Rub jalapeno juice in your eyes makes great tears.

Re: Spy VS. Spy

I knew this would be entertaining. And I need to clarify something. Those of you who know Kitty would know that she is not asking me to sell the plane. She has been a great wife for 32 years. My intention here was not to dis her in any way. She loves the back country trips. (as long as there are showers) She is about two weeks away from getting her private license. I am her instructor. (don't try this at home) We just cant afford to keep the Airplane and get a bigger home. I have a heck of a lot more money in my airplane than they are selling for now! Perhaps remodeling the kitchen in our present home is reality. I've enjoyed your comments. Thanks for your ideas

Boy am I glad you jumped in there. Sounds like you got your mind right.
Hey, move to Nevada. I just bought a nice house on a third acre, 2 miles from N86 for $106K. Short sale. I'm living in it until my nephew can afford to buy it from me, and he's taking care of my peculiar and difficult mother, (Alzheimer's) while the wife and I take a rest from our long term caretaker role. The house had an existing $240K mortgage that the bank and you fine taxpayers ate. Thanks to all  Still, like others, I say airplanes come and go. Good women are extremely difficult to find. Do the right thing. Start building a Wag Aero super cub until things turn around a little.

Re: Spy VS. Spy

As the baby boomers are aging they are dumping the big houses for smaller ones. This is leaving a glut of larger homes. A larger home is more to heat, air condition, clean and maintain. Watch what you ask for. I often long for a smaller home. Too many rooms I don't use and now building an outdoor kitchen. The best part of the Outdoor Kitchen. After crabs and beer, just hose the place down.

I also have the business and house in the wifes name. She knows if she leaves me she gets both the house and the business, I get the helicopter, airplane and airstream, because thats all I need/want.

In reality, I have a great wife and wonderful kids and am lucky to have them. They alone exceeded all my expectations in life. There is nothing wrong with giving Kitty what she would like. Life is short and she has been by your side for a long time. I hope your can work in both your dreams.
