Job description for Aircraft Pilot 1:
https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/ ... n-12-dps63State Benefits. No longer a defined benefit program:
http://doa.alaska.gov/drb/pers/employee ... cBLXa3MzVUTrooper pay and benefits:
http://dps.alaska.gov/AST/Recruit/Home/PayNote the base pay is Anchorage with Per Diem for remote duty as assigned. Cheaper than hiring a pilot stationed full time in Bethel or tasking a Trooper and having to pay additional for the flying activity.
Why don't they just contract the flying? I guess the required firearm carry is one reason plus a clean record. It'll be interesting to see how they handle the travel time...paid on-duty or not?

I lived in Bethel almost 5 years. Made some of the finest friends I've ever had out there. WAY different if you're in the community and not just slumming in a pilot house.
I'm quite sure that the AST housing is way better than any 135 guy is staying in. They've got nice equipment and with the per diem it'd be a fair paycheck.
Whoever does take the job is following an absolute legend in aviation in southwest Alaska.
