I think that the only Steve's thingy that I have is the gascolator, which I've had now for several years. But I've certainly told a good many people how that came about, which to me shows the really fine customer service that Steve's has.
When my airplane was new to me, it had the infamous Cessna glass gascolator. The first time I saw the airplane with the cowl off, my imagination immediately jumped to "what if this thing breaks and the quarter cup of fuel it holds splatters all over the hot manifold?" So I started looking for an alternative, and the Steve's aluminum gascolator seemed like the answer.
Problem: when I looked on the Steve's website, once again my airplane was an orphan. Every single engine Cessna known to man was on there, except for my P172D--and that's been pretty common with all the mods I've had my IA do. I confirmed with my IA that as usual, he could do it, but it would take the additional paperwork with the FSDO, but his usual contact there for such things was on vacation, and so it would take awhile. So I called or emailed Steve's (can't recall now), told of my dilemma, and the response was, "Oh, we can take care of that. The FAA will be here next week, and we'll just get it added to our STC AML." Wow! Talk about service!
So I ordered the gascolator, and a week or so later it arrived with the amended STC AML. My IA installed it, and it's worked fine. Recently he replaced the quick drain in it, as it had become hard to get closed after draining it. All in all, one of the best customer service experiences I've had with my airplane.
So likewise, I'm glad to see a good company do what it can to stay in business.
