Still going strong

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Still going strong

Just a quick note to y'all. 35 years after launch I have officially left the solar system. I was not set up for email or that internet thingy so keep your cards and letters coming, they mean a lot.

Sincerely;
Voyager 1

But someday V-ger will return to it's creator and speak to us through a robot that has nice legs.

and no hair.

Before Star Trek purists blast us, V-ger was the mythical Voyager 6.

Re: Still going strong

All those photos and data were sent back to earth using a transmitter with less power than a candle flame. Hundreds of millions of miles. Thinking about that makes me shiver. The closest thing we have to perpetual motion is the propagation of radio waves through Space.

It will lead them right to us. Just remember when they come, they'll eat the fat ones first! :D :D :D Who ever said they would be friendly??? Morons...

How many? Maybe they taste like chicken. :lol:
If so, let's eat the fat ones first.

Just remember--you don't have to run faster than them, just faster than your "buddy". :)

Re: Still going strong

I find it so amazing and awe inspiring that we sent something that far out into space... and yet that distance is only a microscopic spot of dust in the grand scheme of the Milky Way, which contains millions of solar systems. But that little old thing made with 1970's technology will keep going until it runs into something. I wonder where it will be when I croak at age 135?

As vast as space is, so is time. If you lasted say another 100 years, V-ger would be perhaps a little greater than 1 Solar system diameter away from where it is now. vast by our puny standards, but still in the general neighborhood on the stellar scale. We will probably be extinct and our planet deep into another ice age by the time it reaches the next door solar system.

The only thing that can top the accomplishment of "us" chucking a piece of metal out of orbit into infinity, is the actual fact that "we" the intelligent life form, was created and born from the very matter that floats around in the vast vacuum of space.
Carbon , nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, Chlorine, free energy- (electron, photon and thermal) and a few metals, given the proper nurturing environment can lead to an intelligent structure, an organic computer, that can become self aware and make decisions and have the ability to physically manipulate those very elements to modify it's environment. It's no wonder the brain has been called, inner space.
