Stinson a tough bird.

Pretty rough Stinson crash the other day up the popular kinik glacier area. Looks kinda like an engine failure. Other then being destroyed the cabin did well and the people survived.
I do wonder if the upper cabin could be x braced or beefed up. It does have one tube that kinked towards the copilot like they do in a cub.

Bugger - shame to have one less of these birds flying.

At least it will hopefully be recovered to become spare parts for the remaining owners.

Anyone know what the cause was? I saw the article on KTUU.

Yes they are a tough old bird!! I always wondered about the X brace too.... Hope everyone made it out of that one in good shape. Looks like it about everything it could to save them.

God put me here to accomplish a certain amount of things...right now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!!

Re: Stinson a tough bird.

I sold this one to a guy in AK, the ferry pilot and his daughter walked away with minor scratches.

I'm not a mechanic or builder. The mechanic I leased spray planes from, an aircraft engineer, explained different way steel tubing absorbed a load. Pawnee tubing, like most tube and fabric airplanes, bent throughout the crash. Callair tubing resisted the load for a couple instants and then burst. Stinson tubing appears to be like Callair tubing.
