Super Cub Accident vicinity of Fairbanks?

I just got a call that a good friend of mine was killed in an accident in his Supercub last night in the vicinity of Fairbanks. I couldn't find any news on it. Does anyone up there know anything about this? Thank you.

Oh Man Brett...sorry to hear... I was in Dawson City this week-end and about 15 or so N numbers flew in and they were going across top of the world on Saturday...I saw couple cubs...hope it wasnt one of them.

In any case, we'll be thinking of another missing brother and his friends & family tonight... Most sincere condolences. BCT

Re: Super Cub Accident vicinity of Fairbanks?

Sorry to hear about your friend. This from the State Troopers:

Location: Delta Junction

Case Number: 11-68607

Type: Fatal Aircraft Crash

Text: At 1515 on 7/17/2011 Alaska Wildlife Troopers were notified of a
plane crash near a private runway in Delta Junction. According to
witnesses, shortly after Eric C. Corl, 28, of Fairbanks, departed the
airstrip in his Piper PA-12, the engine started making odd noises and
quit. While attempting to turn back towards the runway, the aircraft
apparently stalled midway through the turn and crashed nose first into
trees and the ground. Corl was transported to the Family Medical Center
in Delta Junction, where he was stabilized for medical evacuation to
Anchorage. Corl died en route to Anchorage. The NTSB and FAA have been
notified.

Damn.

Eric and I spent countless hours flying across Alaska and Iraq talking mostly about flying our airplanes. I told a story here in January of 2009 about flying across North Iraq to pick up pallets of beer to serve at our superbowl party. Eric was sitting two feet to my left. We flew Governor Palin together and shared many a lunch trip to talkeetna. My thoughts go out to his fiancé, mom, dad, and brother who all live in Petersburg.

Oh man, sorry to hear. I know it doesn't matter much that there's a lot of us who have been in your shoes many, many times before. But trust me, we do understand. That bond is a strong one, and it stays with you forever when it's broken.

Sorry to hear it. I lost a friend and an acquaintance in separate crashes over the last two weeks. It is an unforgiving business.
