Superb stove top popcorn popper--new BCP camping gear

I have a close friend who has developed and started selling what has to be the finest stove top popcorn popper anywhere--the Casey Pop. He's an engineer, so it's a bit different from any you've ever seen. (no offense meant toward engineers :))

He has it on Amazon now, $45. I got mine before he put it there, and frankly I bought it only because he's a friend--I didn't even use it for a long time. Then one night I got a hankering for popcorn, and I dug it out of the closet, read the instructions, and within minutes, I had 5 quarts of perfectly popped popcorn--no old maids.

So why on BCP? Well, from now on, I'll be bringing my Casey Pop to fly-ins--I haven't tried it yet on my camp stove, but I bet it'll work as well there as it does on the gas stove in our kitchen. It's only downside is its bulk.

Oh, BTW, he's a pilot, too--he flies a 4 place Lancair that he built, powered with a Lycoming 540, not exactly a back country friendly airplane, but he's still one of the good guys.

It looks like it should make kettle corn. A cup of kernels, a cup of brown sugar, and some goo gone for cleanup.

Put the oil in there, then half a bottle of Tabasco. Watch out, it will spatter like mad when the oil heats. Add the corn and there you go. Hot corn.

I'm not much of a popcorn eater so I haven't paid any attention, but since the advent of "designer" popcorn (starting with Orville Redenbacher) is good old Jiffy-Pop still available? Cooker and popcorn, all in one easy to handle package. Just throw away (or burn) when done.

Yup, still available. And still, adorably, has a warning on the package saying not to cook over a campfire. As if anyone, ever, bought Jiffy Pop for any other purpose.

Learned something. I tried popping only half a batch, as I was going to be the only taker. It didn't work as well--some old maids and burned parts. Better to make a whole batch--and the dog's much happier, too. :)
