Beagle,
I fly a 75hp 1940 Taylorcraft which is basically a 65 that can turn higher RPM's. As long as you are careful with how much weight you put in it, these planes really shock and awe with how well they perform. Most of my backcountry flying is done alone, but I have taken a 200lb. guy in and out of Minam several times and I believe its around 3,400 ft. elevation. With just myself I've been into Johnson Creek(4,900), Big Creek(5,750) and Memaloose(around 7,000), all with camping gear. The Tcraft will also do some of the Big Creek canyon strips like Cabin Creek, Soldier Bar and Bernard with no problems and they are all around the 4,000 to 4,500ft. level. Its amazing what a 188 square foot wing will do in a 750lb. airplane! Mine stalls somewhere around 30 mph power off and with power on the airspeed doesn't register, then you can turn around and cruise at 100mph. Great airplanes, just wish they had a higher payload!
