Holy cow! Glad to hear she's past the chemo! Is there anything left for her treatment or is she done with all of it but checkups now?

Man Tadpole, I am very sorry to hear that. I hope that your wife makes a full recovery and that life slows down a little bit for you and your family. God Bless and hopefully you'll get to work on the old Stinson again once everything calms a bit.

Re: Tadpole's Stinson project #2...

It's in remission, just monthly checks now, as of this month. It's still a bad strain of AML and one that will most likely come back within a few years as currently it seems it can only be cured with a bone marrow transplant, but that's not even the best deal and it's risky. So we did chemo to buy more time hopefully.

Glad to hear it's in remission. Hopefully it stays that way. Extremely hard life decisions for sure. You guys will be in our prayers.
Hoping to see more about your project coming to completion.

Re: Tadpole's Stinson project #2...

Haven't been here forever... I still have the project, haven't been working on it. Been thinking about selling it lately. Kinda hoping that in a few weeks I can start having time to work on it again, but I've been hoping for that for quite awhile. So either it's gonna go, or I'm gonna get back on this darned thing and finish it.

Did you ever get an approval for the 201 prop? If not let me know I may be able to help.

Re: Tadpole's Stinson project #2...

Well, after her remission, we continued with our divorce. While we were finalizing that last fall, the AML relapsed so we stayed with a separation for many reasons, to include my medical insurance. In March she underwent the bone marrow transplant. She was released to home a couple of weeks ago and is doing ok. She still has some issues, but so far, so good. Long road ahead still but she's getting to a point to take care of the kids a little bit, which is good for everyone.

Ya, I just haven't had time for much of anything. Between her AML, having the kids full time for the past several months, and my job that is way busy and keeps me on the road a ton...I had to cut some things out in my life, and one was backing off my internet time. Things are shifting a bit now, and I need motivation for the project, so coming back here and a couple other places might be good for that while I figure out what I'm going to do. Hoping I find a way to keep the Stinson, I'll never get another one like it, that's for sure.

Alright, a test photo to see if you all can see it or not and to see what I need to do in order to get photos in posts here again. Let me know if you can see this pic or not please.

It's current home. I moved to an end unit that has an RV pull through on the backside, which is great since last year I bought a camper so the kids and I could enjoy time away in it.

I'm taking them out tomorrow for the weekend up in the mountains. The place we've been going has a swimming pool and they love being able to go swim!

Re: Tadpole's Stinson project #2...

Alright, so this is old...but still an update from the last time I was posting project status here... and it helps me remember where I left off as I find time and motivation again.

The left wing took a bunch of damage. I've replaced lots of ribs and fixed some other damage. Since I have the Demer tips and you can't get those parts anymore, had to fabricate new ones (with the help of a fellow Stinson friend who was doing the same) and got that all put back together.
Image
Image

Had a fiberglass guy repair the tips for me. Will need to match drill these before I forget and get to far along on the wing finishing.
Image

I also wanted to make the existing doors into observer doors. Before and after...still need to drill holes and cut the windows, but I'll do that after I strip, clean, prime and paint.
Image
Image

Goodbye Grimes position lights and GE 4509 landing/taxi lights (and lots of cash) and hello Whelen LED lights and strobes!
Image

I find I always need more clecos!!! Yay for new boot cowls. And made out of sturdier 0.032 at that!
Image

I live about an hour from Univair...so I get lots of new things from them.
Image

Kind of like this NOS panel overlay. Mine was okay, but it had tons of extra holes in it that I don't need and I like the original clean look. I rearranged the instruments. I got to remove some since I yanked the vacuum system. I went to Univair and Jason let me go in back and dig through the stack of panels to pick the one I wanted. This is brand new, never used, still original paint. A couple of paint chips on it from being stacked up and moved around all these years, but you can hardly tell. I love getting parts from Earl too, but there is a bonus being able to rummage through the parts at Univair. I have a UBG-16 to go in the empty hole on the bottom.
Image

Which brings me to the last time I worked on her, 29 Dec 2016. Got the tip riveted on the vertical stab and then installed the stab. Visible progress! Temp installed the rudder, mostly to get it off the ground. It'll have to come off so I can do the fabric patching and painting. Got some wiring ran to for the new LED position and strobe lights. I've since discovered some alignment issues with the rudder and pulled it back off. I also found that one of my issues is alignment of the tip on the vertical stab, so I'll need to remove it, and since it's swiss cheesed from trying to match it to the stab, I'll get another one from Univair and try this over again to make it look really nice and aligned fully.
