Cumberland? On the south end of the island is what he said, I think.

Re: Tailwheelers Journal

Brian is my instructor :) I really like his style and willingness to let me screw up (it's rare, but it happens... :^o ). One time I accidentally put us 500' below pattern altitude at a dirt strip and he says "so what are you going to do about it?" "I think we can make it" I said. Pulled the power and cranked the plane over, leveling the wings maybe 5' off the ground. The actual landing wasn't the smoothest, but I think there a LOTS of instructors out there that would have just had me power up and enter the pattern again for a more stabilized approach.

Cool to see this pop up. I ran across Brian's site a few months ago. I passed my private pilot checkride on Valentine's day, and hope to take his tailwheel course as soon as possible! He does a great job with the videos.

I’ve also been a student of Brian’s. He’s quite a character with definite opinions on flight instruction to go with his immense talent and dedication to his students. Pattern altitudes and stabilized approaches aren’t spoken much in his program of “fly the airplane” and “make it happen” ( in 30 + hrs flying with him I’ve never seen a turn coordinator without black tape covering it) If you have a little time, I suggest checking out his newsletters and videos.

Re: Tailwheelers Journal

Brian's "Master Class" is a fantastic experience. I made my first taildragger flights with him and happily went back to learn more advanced stuff. Tough to beat flight instruction that is challenging, produces positive results fast and is fun the entire time.

Every video and article on his website are worth watching and reading but flying around central Oregon with Brian is something you should definitely do. Don't expect plain vanilla flying lessons. Let's of color and personality mixed with great flying in Tailwheel Town.

I used to live in Brunswick, GA. Just north of Cumberland Island. Cumberland Island is a National Seashore. I wonder what the legalities are as far as landing on a beach on CI. If you you don't get caught, it ain't illegal? :)
