Talkeetna - Alaska floats and skis

WOW! Day 2 of flying. Top notch flying vacation. Staying at Alaskafloats.com (Don Lee's) is great. Nice cabin and great crew. My wife is along and been on a few flights and just enjoying relaxing - so it's wife approved.

3 flights today, last one was way up Ruth glacier and into the canyons under mt McKinley.. Pics don't do it justice and pushed my comfort zone.. Especially in a 150hp pacer on floats.

Float flying is teaching me a ton!

ASES check ride Monday and then more advanced float flying then some wheel flying bush course

Kind of a nice surprise the way the mountain cleared midday today. Are you based on Christensen Lake?

Other side of the big hill.
This might sound strange, but one of the places I like to visit in TKA is the cemetery. Lots of character and history there.

Sweet, 29er! We just arrived in Talkeetna today before the rain. We're at the brewery and finding lodging right now, but maybe we can meet up sometime. -- Kristian

Have the gorilla masks come out yet? I took the Bushpilot course back in 2010. Great people, great flying.

Hey '29, please tell Don that I said hello. He is a great guy, incredibly knowledgeable. Flying with him and learning how the pros do it is definitely on my bucket list.

Don borrowed my Cub and gave his nephew a ride in May. Fun to talk with him! (I also got him stuck in the middle of the lake with a bad coil on the Malibu ski boat. :? But he and his brother fixed it pretty quickly.)

Re: Talkeetna - Alaska floats and skis

Awesome. I did the same with my SES in '11 with my family in tow and we all had a ball. Lookin' forward to returning to do the bush pilot and spring skiing training.

I saw that beautiful red and gold beaver was there during your stay. I posted a pic of it here in BCP. Still one of my favorite airplane shots.

Congrats again.

Re: Talkeetna - Alaska floats and skis

I was up there flying floats with Alaska Floats and Skis from June 20 to 27. Although I have had my rating since '85, I haven't flown floats much, so I decided to go do some recurrency training in AK. It was awesome. The people at AF&S were awesome. I was even able to get some training in a C185, which was pricey, but worth it!! Now I'm hooked, next will be skis!

The day we got there. Beautiful calm day!

My buddy Paco and me. It was his first time on floats. Beautiful C185!!
