First time I've ever seen the words "beautiful" and "CH-750" in the same post — LOL.

To me, the CH-750 looks like it was beaten with an "ugly stick" although I cannot deny that is takes off and lands pretty short!

Otherwise, Scouts are about the most roomy aircraft that fit your description, of which I've flown and recommend.

Edit: I'm starting to think people's idea of 'camping' varies widely, based on the many comments of a tandem not fitting that mission "comfortably"...

Well...let me say that my experience is primarily camping in Alaska...and mostly in the winter...while hunting...no way on earth I could fit my winter camp and a hunting partner in a tandem. Big Agnes Flying Diamond 8 tent, 2 sleeping bags rated to -40F, 2 cots, 2 luxury edition Thermarests, 2 burner Coleman propane stove, Coleman propane lantern, 2 sets of snowshoes, wing covers, engine blanket, 1000 watt Honda generator, 5 gallons of fuel for generator, food, 2 rifles, 2 daypacks with hunting gear, sled for the critters...5 gallons of water...and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things.

Thank you all for your input. Sound of hands wringing and more hand wringing. I think the airplane for me is the C180 and I am gathering info and talking to folks about same......early models/late models, mods, etc. If anyone knows of a pretty nice one with a good pedigree I would appreciate it. It has been fun talking to owners and brokers and hearing some really interesting stories about specific airplanes. They are so much like us. All different, all with a story to tell.

Re: Tall guy needs a back country airplane

As has been previously documented I have been in search of a taildragger of some sort and over the last few months I have asked questions about various airplanes, desirables in said airplanes and opinions in general. I want to thank all of you for your input, opinions and such. I probably looked at 10 airplanes in person, Tulsa Super Cub, McAllen for Husky's, Dumas, AR a Maule M4, Lake Providence, LA a Scout, a C185 in Texas and 3 Cessna 180's in Houston, Marquette, MI and Buffalo, WY. I talked with at least 15 other owners with aircraft for sale. Along the way I have met some really wonderful people and have discovered that this type of flying, in this type of airplane is a pretty small world. Lots of fun. In the end, my 6'5" frame narrowed the field considerably.
I have settled on a very nice 1954 Cessna 180 and will pick it up in a week or so. Soon I will be asking more questions about that, but for the time being please know that I appreciate all of the feedback.
Thank you and come see the newest back country airfield brought to you by the RAF. Trigger Gap Airfield, 3 miles south of 4M1 in NW Arkansas. On Pension Mountain, near the Kings River, 8 miles from the very cool Victorian village of Eureka Springs, AR. And let me know you are coming, we will roll out the red carpet for you....
I was going to include a photo but can't figure that out.

Can't go wrong with a 180. I may be biased, though.

Congratulations. Great feeling to find "the one." I'm in north Texas and always looking for a new spot. I'll head that way when the weather gets good!!
