Technical question tires and axles

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Technical question tires and axles

Moving my way up to larger tires. Probably end up with 26". I have a C-180 with aluminum axles. Should I go to solid steel axles? Anybody got any?

Thanks Gary

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Lots of information on this on several sites, so you might do a search for specific part numbers. I think any of the steel axles are fine, including the hollow steel axles, which are required for some ski installations.

Thanks Mike

I had asked the question on the 180 site, but hadn't gotten an answer yet. Figured I could ask it here. So many experienced pilots, someone would have the answer for me without searching the web.

Either solid aluminum or hollow steel are supposed to be the ticket. Spruce has solid steel axles listed in their catalog, FAA-PMA for Cessna 180 182 185 206 : $326, p/n 05-00481. Seems to me like I heard these were the same as the ones available from XP Mods or Atlee Dodge or whoever.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

Stay away from the aluminum axles and get the steel (hollow). Shop around, because the prices vary as much as the wind.
