Road Kill Jerky

If you do have trouble, or want to see it from the air, i am 13 miles north of I10 on 349. Exit 325.

My cunado is a K9 for Pecos County! He can get us out of most trouble, he might not, but he could. :)

Thanks for the offer! I'll keep that in mind. I'll be through a few times this next year both on I-10 and I-20. Hopefully I won't be in too much of a hurry. I at least always have time to stop for a meal somewhere along the way down there :D I for sure try hard not to pass up Rudy's in Leon Springs!!

Re: Texas Speed Limits

Oh yeah..... so what are all them Bears and County Mountys going to be doing now?? Enforce the "Left Lane For Passing Only" law?? Looking for drug runners?? Heck, about 9 out of 10 rigs on the road these days are governed at 65-68mph. No reason for me to speed, I get paid by the hour.

Texas Speed Limits

I keep my ass in trouble for traveling the left lane, it's damn sure smoother.
The boys around Junction keep the county coffers full of left laners money and drugs, good excuse for a stop and search. Kinda funny with an I10 "Exit 420" about 20 miles East of Sonora. The sign is stolen about every other month :)

I have a picture, will post. Not of a stolen one, mind you.

I swear only 1 (one) :---) :---)

:D

Actually I be very honest. I tried to do two logs one time on a hard run from east coast to west coast (back when I was young and dumb and full of piss and vinegar). Half way through he trip I got myself all F ed up! Lost track of where I was and what log I was to use and when. So I said F it, I worry about the log when I get there. If I get pulled over, I'll worry about it then. It all worked out in the end.

But, now I'm paid by the hour and the schedule doesn't require much hauling ass from point A to point B anymore. My boss's watch the overtime and double time very close, too. So it's kind of hard to work much more than 13-14 hours per day. And I'm supposed to take a 1 hour break after the first 5.5 hours, then a 30 minute break after the next 5.5 hours. The other thing is that my big boss told me that my logs better match the time card! If not, I be fired! Plus, we are doing are best to keep our safety record perfect. Helps to keep the CHP and USDOT off our backs and keep gettin them green lights on the PrePass transponders :D

Anyway..... got typing like crazy. :D

I bought my last crane on a Friday in Tampa Florida, and got the temp registration paperwork wrapped up just minutes before the DMV closed for the weekend.

Monday at 8:00 AM I rolled into my SE Idaho jobsite

Holy Cow!! You were an Outlaw Mother Trucker!

I knew a motocross trucker than ran his rig hard. He did a trip from San Diego to Tampa non stop. He was also one of those that would run 500-800 miles out of route just to get a few hours worth of fun with one of his many girlfriends across the U.S.

Been 80 for a while on I10 north of San Antonio. You know what the sad thing is? Cars can now legally drive faster than an airplane!

Tire companies are going to love that. Last summer in Iowa on I-80 east of Des Moines, I was going to over take a semi when all of a sudden one of the drivers exploded. Thought I was a goner and how rubber didn't come through the windshield I'll never know. My aunt was pretty nervous when I passed a truck the rest of the trip to VA and you wouldn't believe all the rubber on the road---it was bumping a 100 degrees and speed limit was just a measly 70.

Re: Texas Speed Limits

Just an FYI........
Law Passed Banning Held Held Cell Phone Use by Commercial Drivers

Just recently, a final ruling was made by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regarding cell phone use by commercial truckers. Those who operate commercial trucks and buses will no longer be permitted to use any hand-held cell phones while navigating their vehicles on the nation’s roadways.

The new law will take effect January 3, 2012, one month after the official statement and paperwork was passed by the FMCSA. No driver will be allowed to hold a cell phone in their hand while driving with the other, and, if they break the rule, they can face disciplinary actions. Offenses will count as traffic violations and several accrued infractions can lead to a commercial driving license being revoked.

Drivers who violate the restriction will face federal civil penalties of up to $2,750 for each offense and disqualification from operating a commercial motor vehicle for multiple offenses. States will suspend a driver’s commercial driver’s license after two or more serious traffic violations. Commercial truck and bus companies that allow their drivers to use hand-held cell phones while driving will face a maximum penalty of $11,000. This ban follows the September 2010 ban regarding texting while operating a commercial truck or bus.

Most all big rig tires are only rated for 75 mph at the most.

Also, from our past experience with the smaller 255/75R 22.5 tires on our trailers. Even though they may have lots of tread on the tires after being 4-5 years old. We are going to start replacing them just after 3-4 years max. Our race trailers sit around a lot and I believe they get flat spotted and dry rotted while sitting in the SoCal sun. The 255's are the only size tire we have blown left and right in the past once they get over 4 years old. We always run new mostly Bridgestone rubber on all of our rigs, too. Absolutely no recaps and foreign tires!!

Skylane,

Go to www.smoothtalker.com
They have cradles and boosters for almost any cellphone. You will have cell coverage all over this great nation.

Get ya one of them ear buds and it'll make your life easy. They also sell an extended hands free mic. One of them mounts to the floor, the other to the visor and adjust to the driver. They work a hell of a lot better that the old cab mounted mics.
