The Franklinstein Project...

So I am in the throws of ordering parts for this Franklinstein 172. The Sportsmans STOL, Airglas fork, and big tires go on next week. Polished the windows and UV protected them. Between now and the STOL/Airglas upgrade, I hope to get the paint sorted out on the fuselage. The tail is done and I'm going to wait until after the STOL upgrade to do the wings.

I'm starting to think about interior options... Have any of you used the Fiberglass interior Selkirk kit and their Extended baggage STC? Was going buy those and the vinyl floor from SCS.

Let me know your thoughts and experience with these company's!

Thank you!

Re: The Franklinstein Project...

Here are some before and after Pic's. Started with the red and I'm going to change the brown to black and then touch up and polish the white. Wet-sanded, primed and then painted. The elevators were good, so I just polished and sealed them. Ordered the rubber abrasion boots from Cessna today and should have those tomorrow.

I still need to wet-sand, polish and seal the Horizontal stab's. It's not perfect, but that's ok! It is, after all, a backcountry bird!

Great work. If you don't get enough of that paint repair, I will graciously allow you to drive up to Boulder and touch up my 180. Let me know if you ever need another plane/pilot to fly with.

I'd be happy to help you! It's time consuming but easy. Fly down to KFTG and we'll do some touch up on your bird.

Re: The Franklinstein Project...

Not sure if this could work for you but I installed an airglass extended baggage in my C170B and am very pleased I did. It is very well made and I believe lighter than the Selkirk fiberglass unit. I don't see the C172 extended baggage on the airglass product line but depending on the year of your 172 you might get it approved.

Re: The Franklinstein Project...

Ive looked at both Selkirk and Airglass extended baggage kits, and the Airglass is definitely a MUCH nicer product. Better finished and looks stiffer. YMMV.

I have the Selkirk flap tunnel cover and it required some patient fitting but it is fine.
