Re: The Great Server Crash of 2013

It was horrible. I was wringing my hands all night, checking the iPad every few minutes. Then I got up this morning and found no BCP. Finally it's over

Thanks Zane

Re: The Great Server Crash of 2013

Well, I'm just relieved it wasn't related to hacking, which would have meant a lot of work for me. Those data center dudes were working into the wee hours to replace some fried network hardware.

If you thought this was bad, the new site migration is gonna be worse. #-o

Re: The Great Server Crash of 2013

Who knew how dependent on maniacally checking BCP I've become. So glad it's back!

Thanks for all your hard work! =D>

If you thought this was bad, the new site migration is gonna be worse. #O

Try to do it next early next week---I might be gone for a few days. :)

Re: The Great Server Crash of 2013

I think I was trying to post something exactly while this crash was happening. I'd hit the "post reply" button, and nothing would happen for a few minutes, and then I'd try posting it again, etc. etc. Finally I had to go back to work and stopped trying to post it (never having seen it posted). An hour later all five or six posts showed up on the thread to my embarrassment. So I thought I'd bettger delete the repeats... but some of the time when I go into the "edit post" screen I see an "X" button to delete a post, and some of the times I do not see that "X" available. I was unable to delete the repeat posts from yesterday, but managed to edit out the repeated text. Does anyone know why that "delete post" option is not available half of the time?

Re: The Great Server Crash of 2013

You can delete your post while it's the last one in the thread, I believe. Once someone else posts, it's preserved for posterity and you can only edit.

Please give us some heads up so we can stop by the liquor store and buy some aviation videos before hand.

Another thought, my wife thinks that there should be a BCP Widows forum. She my be right, but I'ld hate to see what they would say on it.

Re: The Great Server Crash of 2013

I always did mirrors (ufsdump) of my servers in case I had to pick up and move in a hurry. Hard drives are so ridiculously cheap.

My general configuration:

FreeBSD
Apache
PHP, Python, Java, BASH, C etc.
MySQL (or Oracle)
OpenSSL for PKI (SSL), server keys, signing, etc
Snort, BASE, ACID (for logging events and IDS)
PGP (old style) for client private keys (Win32)

Re: The Great Server Crash of 2013

It's a conspiracy. There was so server crash. Zane is just trying to ween the crackheads off early to prevent a massive stroke when we all transition to the new site. hahaha

Re: The Great Server Crash of 2013

I think we might go down again later tonight for maintenance, according to the data center team. Maybe not. If it does, you know what happened.

My wife agrees, but not a widows forum, just a support group for the wives of all of us pilots addicted to flying and this site...
